It is definitely the most relevant, most repeated, and the most annoying question at E3. At cocktail parties, on the show floor, and in the hallways, the question on everybody's lips is "What's your favorite game at the show?"

After much argument, GameSpot narrowed it down to the ten most promising games at this year's E3. Our only criteria were that the game be playable in some fashion at the show, and that the game was not one of our picks from last year's E3 (hence the noticeable absence of games like Age of Empires II and Diablo II). Because we felt so limited in narrowing it down to ten, we've also included every game, categorized by genre, that we thought worth watching.

Keep in mind the fact that these many of these picks are based solely on first impressions, and many of these games may turn out very differently than planned. As evidence to this, we'd like to point out that one of our picks from last year, Baseball Pro 99, was shelved and that another, Trespasser, went on to win our Worst Game of the Year award.

Interestingly, of the ten most anticipated games we wrote about in our pre-E3 coverage, only three of them: Dark Reign 2, Freelancer, and Oni, made it onto the top ten list after we got a closer look. It just goes to show, you never can tell.
