Total Annihilation: Kingdoms
Publisher: Cavedog Entertainment
Developer: Cavedog Entertainment
Release: December 1998

Total Annihilation: Kingdoms is still relatively early in its development, and to that end, the extent of what GameSpot was shown consisted of three screenshots. Cavedog did reveal some information as to what we can expect to see in the completed product, however. Four different playable sides, an updated game engine, 3D-accelerator support, and enhanced graphics and terrain highlight this forthcoming fantasy real-time strategy game. Gone are the hi-tech robots and vehicles of Total Annihilation, replaced in Kingdoms by the likes of knights, galleons, and cavalry. The undead and other fantastical creatures will also make an appearance.

Kingdoms will incorporate a similar resource gathering model to Total Annihilation, though specifics were not available. And while an abundance of units is assured, Cavedog reiterated that units in Kingdoms would be more focussed in design so that all are useful. Better yet, each of the four sides will consist primarily of troops without direct equivalents on any of the other sides, making all four unique. Project leader Clayton Kauzlaric assured GameSpot that Kingdoms, while related to Total Annihilation technologically, will be far more than just "TA in lipstick and a dress" and will contain more than enough new features and enhancements to make it a strong stand-alone game. Kingdoms is slated to ship late this year.
