Football Pro '99
Publisher: Sierra Sports
Developer: Sierra Sports
Release: Fall 1998

After just a few cosmetic changes last year, Football Pro is finally getting that long overdue face-lift. A rejuvenated development team has given the game a full 3D engine with polygonal players. One very welcome addition is the pop-up window during a game, which contains all coaching and play-calling functionality, so you no longer have to exit the game screen to make substitutions or call time-outs.

One thing that hasn't changed is the simulation and statistical engine; Sierra Sports promises that those will stay as solid and detailed as ever. Only the interface might get a face-lift. The play editor will also still be in there, but with some fundamental changes to accommodate the game's new AI: Players can now react to all variables of the game, including their own teammates' actions, not just to the actions of the opponent. There will also be a financial model requiring team managers to watch over salary caps and other money matters.

This might be the right time, considering the limited choices for football games on the PC, for Football Pro to get back on top. And it looks like it's headed in that direction.
