Publisher: Sierra Sports
Developer: Sierra Sports
Release: November 1998

Basketball games for the PC seem to come and go, with only EA Sports' NBA Live series still around. Not to take anything away from NBA Live, but it lacks some of the depth that PC sports gamers appreciate. Now Sierra Sports is jumping in, bringing its reputation for in-depth gameplay to professional basketball simulations.

Although Sierra won't say much about it yet, it gave GameSpot a little sneak peek of the running game at E3. Each player will have attributes in two different groupings: skills and abilities. Skills are obvious things like shooting, dribbling, and passing, while abilities determine a player's speed, jumping, agility, and the like. Each group, as it exists right now, has about ten ratings apiece. All stats will be presented in a useful database format and can be sorted by one or more categories.

In the game, players will be rendered using polygons, as might be expected, and gameplay will emphasize good game control as well as knowledgeable coaching skills. The 3D engine is still pretty early in its development, but we hope it will be up to par with NBA Live.

If you've been looking for a basketball game with a little more depth, Basketball Pro might be the one.
