Imperium Unit Descriptions and Strategies:
Freighters and Hover Freighters
Either one of these units can transport Taelon or fresh water. Hover Freighters, however, are armed with a protective laser turret, are much quicker, and can move over water and swampy surfaces.
Vulnerabilities
Both of these units can take quite a pounding without being destroyed. The Hover Freighter also possesses a limited ability to defend itself using its turret, but don't expect to take out a squadron of Imperium Hover Tanks. The bottom line is if these units are caught out in the open by a number of enemy units, they likely won't make it back to base.
How to Get the Most out of Freighters and Hover Freighters
The ability to travel over most surfaces, the laser turret, and, perhaps most importantly, additional speed all make Hover Freighters worth the extra expense. When harvesting resources, use your Hover Freighters and Freighters effectively. Don't send more than one Freighter to harvest from a freshwater site unless that site has a lot of water (which you can tell by clicking on it), or is far from your Water Launch Pad. The same consideration applies to Taelon deposits, but since Taelon is less important, it's probably not worth your time to micromanage Taelon collection.
Both types of Freighters make excellent decoys for drawing out enemy attacks. Once you've succeeded in getting your power generators up to maximum capacity and your freshwater site levels are low, chances are you'll have a few spare Freighters around. Use them. Bring them to the front and let them draw your enemy's forces into the open, so you can decisively counterattack or sneak into your enemy's base.
