Imperium Unit Descriptions and Strategies:
Cyclones and Sky Fortresses

screenshot The Imperium air units are vastly superior to their Freedom Guard counterparts. Cyclones are the ultimate in fighter-bombers, and a group of eight or nine can do some serious damage to an enemy base. Sky Fortresses are the siege weapon of choice - two successive hits from one will destroy a Heavy Rail Platform.

Vulnerabilities
Both Cyclones and Sky Fortresses are vulnerable to Skirmish Tanks, Air Defense Sites, Laser Turrets, Flak Jacks, and Sky Bikes. But Cyclones outgun all units and should only be afraid of the stationary Air Defense Sites. Sky Fortresses are even more deadly, but take a long time to recharge their shots and are defenseless against Sky Bikes. A group of three or more Sky Fortresses doesn't have much to fear.

How to Get the Most out of Cyclones and Sky Fortresses
screenshot Both of these units are considerably more powerful, and, accordingly, more useful than the Freedom Guard air units. Group Cyclones in larger groups (eight or more units), so you can be assured that they can quickly take out dangerous Skirmish Tanks and other antiair units. A small group of Sky Fortresses can be especially effective: Use a couple Sky Fortresses to take out any Heavy Rail Platforms or Air Defense Sites, while keeping another Sky Fortress or two in reserve nearby to handle any antiair units that rush to the attack. While the Sky Fortresses are recharging, keep them well away from the front, over a hill or over water. A group of Sky Fortresses acting in this manner can take out an entrenched artillery position or a whole squadron of Freedom Guard tanks relatively easily. Their attack has an "area of effect," so seek out groups of tanks huddled together.

Make effective use of the gather command (the End key) so that Cyclones exiting rearming decks will move back into a more useful position. Always use the paths command when moving air units around an enemy position or they might wander into the long range of an Air Defense Site.
