Imperium Unit Descriptions and Strategies:
Shredders
Shredders cut through enemy infantry like a hot knife through butter but have no ranged attack and have no attack against enemy armored or air units.
Vulnerabilities
Shredders have no defense at all against Freedom Guard armored or air units. They have no ranged attack at all, so they have to get up close and personal in order to attack infantry. If a group of infantry is prepared for a Shredder, there's little chance that the Shredder will survive long enough to get to do its magic.
How to Get the Most out of Shredders
Shredders do only one thing, and they do it very well: decimate infantry. Shredders are good at achieving that goal in a variety of ways. On the defensive side, you should keep a few Shredders (three will do) handy behind your main turret defense in case the Freedom Guard tries an infantry rush. As soon as the infantry is engaged against other opponents or blasting the turrets, sweep in from the flank and wipe out all of the enemy infantry. Run away from any Freedom Guard armor you encounter, as Shredders are defenseless and relatively weakly shielded.
Using a few Shredders as scouts during the early phases of a level is also a good idea, as the computer AI loves to send out groups of infantry at the beginning of a level, and you'll be able to wipe them out and get an idea of where the enemy base is located. If you actually manage to get a Shredder into an enemy base, park the Shredder at the exit of a Training Facility, and you'll have effectively sealed it off. All newly generated infantry will be eviscerated prior to getting an opportunity to attack.
