Freedom Guard Unit Descriptions and Strategies:
Raiders and Mercenaries
These units make up the core of your infantry force. Raiders are armed with a puny laser rifle and wear weak armor; mercenaries have stronger armor and an armor-piercing rail gun.
Vulnerabilities
Both raiders and mercenaries move slowly and have limited range with their weapons. They are also extremely vulnerable to the Imperium's Shredder units (remember to hit the x key to scatter your troops when you see a Shredder coming) and to Imperium SCARAB artillery.
How to Get the Most out of Raiders and Mercenaries
Even wimpy raiders can be very useful once you have a phasing facility built. A group of phased raiders set at a short distance from your main turret defense can quickly take out even the most powerful Imperium armor, since the enemy tanks will focus their attacks on the turret wall and not on the raiders that suddenly appear behind them. (Phased mercenaries are even more deadly in this role.)
Mercenaries are actually strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Imperium armor - you'll usually get the short end of the stick, but you'll inflict some serious damage. Raiders, on the other hand, are pure cannon fodder and won't last long against any sustained Imperium attack. Never send raiders into a direct assault on Imperium forces unless you desperately need to delay an Imperium advance. An exception to this rule is when there are Imperium Exterminators out in the open or attacking your armored units: mercenaries and raiders can take out Exterminators with ease, which will spare your armored units needless losses.
