Freedom Guard Unit Descriptions and Strategies:
Phase Tanks
These units have the same range as Skirmish Tanks, and although they lack their ability to attack air units, Phase Tanks are more effective against infantry and armor, and have the ability to "phase" underground, making them effectively invulnerable.
Vulnerabilities
As indicated above, Phase Tanks are unable to attack air units, but unlike other ground units that are potentially defenseless against air attack, Phase Tanks are capable of phasing underground to avoid attacks of any sort. Phase Tanks are outgunned by Imperium Tachion Tanks, however, and may not be able to use their phasing abilities if they are badly damaged.
How to Get the Most out of Phase Tanks
Phase Tanks are the ultimate for ambushes. Placing a group of Phase Tanks between your base and the enemy base can quickly turn an enemy assault into a rout. Once the enemy force passes by your Phase Tanks and begins to attack your base, unphase and attack the enemy from behind (be careful that there's not a second wave of attackers before you commence your attack). If you're in danger of getting overwhelmed, just phase again (pressing the i key is the quickest way to re-phase) to avoid damage. Like Skirmish Tanks, Phase Tanks have sufficient range to take out plasma turrets.
For a really sneaky attack, load a bunch of Phase Tanks aboard a Phase Runner and take it deep into Imperium territory. Once there, set the Phase Runner to "scout" (from the Orders menu), and you'll be able to explore the Imperium base undetected. As soon as your Phase Runner uncovers a building you'd really like to destroy (like a Rift Generator), or a mess of Imperium artillery, unload the Phase Tanks and let loose on the Imperium base and units. Make sure you stay out of the range of Imperium Neutron Accelerators. If things are not going your way, you can always phase your units and leave them there relatively protected within the heart of the Imperium base.
