Freedom Guard Unit Descriptions and Strategies:
Skirmish Tanks
Notwithstanding the belittling these guys received in the introduction to the Freedom Guard, these units are among your most versatile. Their dual missile attack is useful against both ground and air units making the Skirmish Tank valuable in a variety of circumstances.
Vulnerabilities
Like all Freedom Guard armor units, Skirmish Tanks are vulnerable to Imperium Exterminator attacks. They are also unable to go toe-to-toe with Imperium Tachion Tanks. Sky Fortresses love to take out whole groups of Skirmish Tanks in a single shot, so be sure to scatter your tanks by pressing the x key as soon as a Sky Fortress appears. Skirmish Tanks also lack the range to challenge Neutron Accelerator Turrets.
How to Get the Most out of Skirmish Tanks
Really the core of your armored forces, especially in the early scenarios, Skirmish Tanks are useful in a variety of circumstances. On the offensive, Skirmish Tanks have superior range to Plasma Turrets and are therefore able to take out the turrets without being endangered (you'll likely need more than one Skirmish Tank to do so, however, in order to overwhelm the Imperium's repair capabilities). Skirmish Tanks also make valuable escorts later on in the game, as they are able to fend off air attacks (although less effectively than Flak Jacks).
On defense, Skirmish Tanks are a cheap method for filling a defensive line. Retreat them to a mechanic or a Repair Station whenever necessary to keep them alive. It may be useful to set their damage tolerance to low when used in such a defensive role, but be sure that you set your Repair Station's exit point to a spot near the defensive front or else you'll succeed in depleting your own defenses.
