Release Date: Early March for PC, late March for PlayStation
You are Morgan Bernhardt, mercenary leader of the Grudgebringer calvary,
and you've been summoned by the Emperor. The border princes are in trouble, including an old friend and former mercenary running buddy. You of course are more than willing to oblige and aid the princes in their battle against the Greenskins, provided you're paid very well. The Emperor promises gold, your friend turns his troops over to you, and you head off to protect a trading post from goblins. But at the very least, you'll begin this mission with the Grudgebringer Sword in your possession....
So begins the first mission of the latest addition to the Warhammer universe:
Dark Omen, the sequel to Shadow of the Horned Rat. The Dread King is back and the undead are crawling out of the woodwork - literally. In the end, you are responsible for saving the Empire from the Dread King, but you'll have to tackle an awful lot of other bad guys (goblins, orcs, and such) along the way.
EA wanted to make Dark Omen more accessible and easier to use than Shadow of the Horned Rat.
To this end, the interface was simplified, but the basic gameplay, though modified, should feel familiar to Warhammer fans.
GameSpot talked to the folks at EA and played a late beta of the game - consequently we've got an inside look at the regiments you'll be working with, the interface you'll be dealing with, the spells you'll be casting, the sound you'll be hearing, and the multiplayer you'll be fighting in. And along with all that exhaustive info, we've got screenshots you won't find anywhere else - all in this GameSpot exclusive featured preview.
