Who wins? You decide! (It's PC.)
Getting your hands on a game early is always a treat, and as treats go EA has done well this week. The open beta for Crysis 3's multiplayer has landed on consoles and PC, and we've jumped at the chance to hunt our prey across the two maps and two game types on offer. Not jumped in yourself? Take a look at this gameplay, from the Xbox and PC, and see what you make of EA's latest sci-fi shooter.
Xbox 360: Staying hidden is key, just a few shots will secure your death.
Xbox 360: It takes a true marksman to plant an arrow in a mid-air Cell Operative.
PC: You're a regular Robin Hood with that bow! Only, without the charity. Also you're invisible.
PC: What's this? A "Pinger" walker? Of course I'll drive you and kill everyone.
Crysis 3 arrives on 19 February in the US and 22 February in Europe. Already taken part in the beta? Let us know how you got on with the multiplayer in the comments below.
Oh boy, the pc maggots are out in full force on this one ... more boring and mindless dribble being thrown at their satanic nemesis the console.
Yes Seb! we are all more than well aware that the PC is unbeatable in the Visuals department, its quite obvious really.
Are you so bored that you have to run yet another PC v [Insert plaform here] comparison, or is it merely a case of job justification??
So Yes! we get it! If you require the pinacle of visual fidelity get a PC.
Give us a break!
Im tired of these comparisons. A high end gaming comp will beat an xbox every time. there is no comparison and if anybody dosent kno this by now then nothing is going to change their narrow little minds.
@doktron narrow minded, hmmm uneducated in the digital way !! :)
you can only truly compare the two titles when they're running side by side.
Nice to see game-spot still promoting the pc's though
@itchyflop @failboater @doktron I have a 360 I gave to my little brother and a friend has a ps3. Crysis 3 looks nice maxed out in the beta at 2560x1440 but there are games that hang with it graphically. I could be complaining about art direction though. Its worth it to go PC man. The money I save on games by just buying while steam has sales is amazing. The startup is a bit more expensive if you want the best but the savings if you are smart with your purchases make up for it.Thanks man you too.
@failboater @itchyflop @doktron surely u dont buy all copies for their respective hardware systems ?? I completely agree, though you have to be willing to spend moer for the pc, so its going to be better. However if you want the best from what you love doing your going to spend the dollar and why not !! My pc is a little behind lately, im gonna have to invest in a new card, id be interested to see crysis 3 on the pc, looking at the ps3 version which even i have to admit looks pretty slick (also owning a ps3 and have previously owned 3 xbox's 360s). Keep gaming bro :)
Oh how poor the xbox looks, the textures on the wall and the water effect is truly shocking. PS3 and Xbox 360 your time is up, please make your way to Switzerland you have an appointment with Dignitas
wow a 6 year old console that costs less than a top of the range PC graphics card didnt run as good as a high end PC version, amazing, considering the price and age of the 360 it looks great
@Mar28jw A low to medium end GPU could beat a xbox. I have a 90 buck gts 450 that puts an xbox and ps3 to shame.
@failboater "90 buck gts 450 that puts an xbox and ps3 to shame" I agree and I have 4x $400 670 ftw (Quad SLI) cards that will put any console in the next 5-10 years to shame.
@C-P-30 I got 2 670s from evga in reference clock and I got one for 300 and the other for around 340. Sales bro. How is it? I'm finding that because the way games are made nowa days (for consols) I get diminishing returns for added hardware. What kind of monitor(s) do you use? Please tell me 3 2560x1440 in eyefinity.
PC takes it each time, since this is 'just a shooter' and not a game that would actually benefit from a pad or controller such as a platformer or action game...
@tgwolf Thats when I whip out my 360 controller and plug it into mt usb port on my PC, it works awesome. Best of both worlds.
I'm all in for the pc version, being i had both the pc and x360 version of Crysis2, and there was no comparison, the pc version runs maxed out everything in 1080p and 55-60fps(on a I7 cpu and gtx 670 gpu, while the x360 ran on low settings in 720p/30fps).
But i'm not hyped about it after playing Far Cry 3 on the pc, as that is one amazing open world/fps and it sports the best pc graphics since Crysis1.
Crysis 3 is not open world, but i hope it's alot less linear like Crysis 1 was, rather then the much more linear Crysis 2.
@PhilipO45 You are thinking art direction. Far Cry 3 does look nice maxed out there are games that outpace it. I play on a beast of a PC with a 2560x1440 monitor and I'll say that Metro 2033, heavily modded Skyrim, modded Crisis 2, and even BF3 with the FXAA mod look better. Metro is something to behold. Its stunning. Skryrim is on another level. .INI tweaks can turn that game into a moving painting. There are screenshots of metro and skyrim that I took if you want to see what I'm taking about on my ingur. Look for failboater.
Imagine a Skyrim were the grass doesnt pop in because its being rendered farther out than you can see. Thats the Skyrim I'm playing. If you are willing to mod its the best looking game ever made.
@failboater I agree about metro2033,skyrim, crysis (1,2&warhead) all looking better than farcry3.And these are probably some of the best looking games on the PC. I was kindof dissapointed with farcry3 (terrible draw distance). I have an i5 cpu and GTX570 vid card and I play all my games maxed out.I was curious what u thought of the stalker games.I have all 3 (chernoble, clear sky, call of pripyat), heavily modded, and they look incredible.Especially shadow of chernoble, which is a great open world game.
@petez34 @failboater Nothing really. It was on sale at an amazing price. I routinely have Live, Sibelius, and Reason open all at once and each doing their own thing but... No, nothing uses that much. I'm considering turning 16 gigs of it into a RAM drive for video editing but my SSD has been fast enough for me so far in that department. I don't know. I guess I mostly use it to impress people who dont know any better. LOL.
@failboater What do you do that requires 32gb ram? Just asking
@doktron @failboater I have not tried the stalker games but I'll look into them. The highlights of my rig are an I-5 3570 at 4.7ghz, 2 Gtx 670s, 32 gigs of RAM, and my games run on a SSD. I've played a ton of modern games since getting the 2.5k monitor and Skyrim is just stupidly good looking. I find that I cant get all that much accomplished when I play because I'm constantly stopping to just look around. I have about 100 mods running but its the .INI files where you will really make your money visually.
I would bet that the stalker games would look good, but then again everything does at 2560x1440. Console games do have one thing right and thats the start up costs involved with a high end rig are high. My set up cost me a pretty penny. On the other hand I also calculate my accrued saving by buying video games on sale and I've saved about 1700 bucks this year alone over what it would have cost me to be playing the same things on my xbox-360 (my prefered console).
@failboater no, i'd have to go with crysis 2 with maldo HD 4 mod. it makes it look fucking amazing
@Rhys4Peace @failboater Too many mods to list man but its the .ini tweaks that really made the mods actually work. uGrids to 11, grass is rendering at 14000 as opposed to like 3 normally, and just about every thing I could tweak I did. Its not the most stable thing in the world but its on a SSD and I autosave and quicksave constantly. Biggest chang was when i got Lush Grass, Dense Grass 100, and then changed the grass .ini stuff. Look up Skyrim .INI tweaks. and then go to deadendthrills dot com and look at his mod list. That should get you started. It very likey could just be that my game renders at double the resolution yours does, but I think you could probs get some good results folowing that dudes site as a guide.
@failboater @Rhys4Peace i play at 1920 x 1080. and i personally think madlo offers good draw distance. i can, however, accept that metro does indeed have better lighting.
and i can agree on that, we most probably are arguing over art style. What graphics mods do you use on skyrim? cause i have the 2k texture pack, a bunch of weapon and armor textures and an awesome ENB mod that adds crazily good HDR
@Rhys4Peace @failboater What resolution do you play at? I have maldos 4 and i like it but the small draw distances hold it back in my book. While metro doesnt have the craziest draw distances either I think the lighting is better in metro. With the right ENB Skyrims lights are also amazing.
Whatever the case really may be I think this is really just us arguing over art direction. I still personally think that I find the highest level of detail in skyrim and with the enhanced lighting of an ENB its a blast to play.
@Rhys4Peace @failboater I use Maldos along with a few others and I agree it looks amazing but even that doesnt stack up to Metro. My Skyrim though beats them all. I have something like 100 mods running and my INI tweaks are too numerous to list. A well modded Skyrim looks like nothing out on the market right now.
@PhilipO45 it won't be ...
Just give it up already! Crysis 2 got to be dumbed down to fit into the consoles of the curent generation consoles. If Crytek actually goes all out and put things to the edge like the original Crysis, then what chance do the PS3 and Xbox 360 have standing against the PC? Yes, they were in a whole different, higher league than the PC when they first came out. But that is a thing of the past now.
@solid_snake1461 By the time ps3 released there was already a graphic card liteally two times faster than 7900 gtx, the most similar videocard to the one ps3 has.
When Crysis 4 is developed around the next consoles, then we will finally see a true sequel to Crysis1.
Hopefully Crysis 3 is alot closer to Far Cry 3 in terms of optimizing it for high end pcs, compared to Crysis2. But eithier way, i'm sure it's closer to being as linear as Crysis 2, rather then more open ended, as Crysis 1 was.
These new consoles need to arrive fast, as it benefits both pc and console owners, and the developers won't have to code around these 7 yr old consoles.
@PhilipO45 @solid_snake1461 I have played the Beta extensively and at 2560x1440 im getting about 60 fps with everything maxed out but AA (i dont use AA in most games because at that resolution its not needed). I think its going to be better optimized (my beast of a pc should be getting more fps) but I dont think it will matter. It looks good but its nothing to write home about. I built my PC for this game and Arma 3. so far I'm disappointed.
This game should have stayed PC dedicated. If you think about it, if you had a PC that only performs as much as an xbox or a PS3, you would NOT be able to play it. Crytek engine always required power to play, and these consoles don't have that power to run such a game like you would on a PC (no even if it was in low graphical settings). Plus, I'm sure they would have made a better Crysis 2 and 3 if it was not released for consoles. I think consoles are a great idea at times, but this game just isn't one of those games made for them, or at least not yet.
this is just hilarious. this is like asking what's faster and more powerful? a fighter jet or a car?
@gplayer5 They compare to see how much it's better on PC . Looks great on PC as always but I am not hyped for the game , Crysis and Crysis warhead were my one of the most favourite games back then but after this series came on consoles , it became linear and scripted game with bad attitude of Crytek toward gamers because it's Crytek's voice but EA words .
