We recently tested 23 graphics cards. They included graphics chips from Nvidia, S3, 3dfx, ATI, Matrox, and 3Dlabs. All in all, there's a rich selection of capable graphics accelerators available now from quite a number of sources. Because of the rapid pace in the graphics-chip business, the slowest of these cards would have been a top performer as recently as last February. Every chip on the list supports dual pixel pipelines, multitexture support, and every transparency mode needed for games.
The selection of good hardware means a rich set of choices for gamers. Still, there are differences between boards that could make some more interesting for users than others. We'll try to cut through the hype and just present the facts.
