@SAgunner - I just started playing last night and did one mission... I didn't care for it but I will keep going. Hopefully what you say is true
Ordered it from Amazon for $36. Really stoked to play it. I think it's gonna be a great experience, since I love Bethesda so much for all their other games. All the reviews I've seen are just slamming it for technical issues. Can you wait a few days? They came out with a good patch just the other day that appears to have fixed the bigger problems with it. Plus, they're making the first dlc FREE. Comes out in June. I think it's a good idea to release the first dlc free since the game hasn't "lived up to it's expectations." new maps, weapons, and customization options. That just about covers all your needs. And I bet the game will be just about bug-less by June. It seems like Splash Damage really cares to make this game what everyone was hoping it to be. Just give it some time imo.
I've got the PC version and I'm really having fun with it. The learning curve is steeper than most shooters I've played, but get past the hump and it's a great time.
@DanBoiani Keep it! Don't make the mistake of actually listening to those hate reviews (you need to get a feel for the game yourself, I believed them) and just try it out.
OK People, I am entrusting the future of Brink to you all. I bought it, but have not opened it yet. My question to you all is: Do I return it now, or do I rip the cover off and keep it? Let me hear you!
@HeyBraza I enjoyed the game on console (Xbox 360) Though the algorithms for target tracking are no where near that of CoD or Halo I always felt that was cheating. That being said the game lags terribly fierce and am afraid it is unplayable for the most part. Which is sad because it might be a crap solo/Co-op game its great fun in Vs. and that's what I bought it for. I hope they get some network patches in or better yet DEDICATED SERVERS haha that will never happen, oh well. @gamer_x_99 I disagree with your shotgun Idea I managed to beat all the missions on solo even the first one(which gave me the most trouble) Choose mid or heavy Assault rifle for your main and sub for your secondary the bots will kill you if you try to get close enough for a shot gun.(for the first challenge when you die don't return down the same route.)
I actually liked the game... its fresh and innovative. There are some subtle mechanics that change gameplay a lot. I don't know... im playing this game on PC, and to me it is being very dynamic and fun... There are some design issues, but they are minor ones (they all can be patched IMO). I see a lot of complain from console owners. I havent played the console version, so I dont know how smart system and gameplay works with a controller... it seems to me that Brink is a PC game... I think they shouldn't port it to consoles, or at least not port until really fine tuning mechanics and design. Overall, I would recommend Brink for PC gamers. Ill try to play the console version and see what happens.
My 2p Looks shiny, we like shiny, great customisation great player models load of cool gear, player char can be both police and rebel. Second char ( say you want a large solider for example) all unlock transfer over (all academic as all aesthetic though!!!) Great game mechanics, like domination on COD but can also be against CPU (vs available) 8v8 (lagfest) Load of things to do, hack, escort, defend, all in same game session. lose an objective goes on to next and time starts from 10 mins again, Succeed and game ends You can see you char in cut scenes looking cool... A cross between Mirrors edge borderlands COD, Team fortress, waterworld, Bad: Lag, very bad, but still if you get a good session.. No campaign in traditional form, u get 16 scenario's that add up to a story with an info cut scene and an ending, (like lost planet, and ends like BC2) I wanna really like this game but I can't, I like it better than cry2 and wanted to like that too, but couldn't some thing is wrong but i can't put my finger on it. I played this till completion and will still go back for more - why lord knows its fun and my guy looks cool, I think i spent more time creating my char than bloody play the game lol, and doing the challenges to get the extra guns is also hard going but rewarding. The problem now is there is no meaning left to the game, done dusted, back to fifa/cod/bc2/ or another long termer....until LA:n
Not sure whether i should buy this, there seem to be mixed opinions.. From what i seen i have to say i'm not too impressed. I was kinda hyped for the game, turns out it doesn't seem something i'd like. I'm probably gonna buy LA Noire and Killzone 3 instead.
The game itself is fresh and innovative, but the online lag and the A.I that doesnt do anything let this game down, just hoping for a patch because its more of a frustration than enjoyable at the moment :(
With PSN being down I have no idea what to expect from the online play. The release date coinciding with the black out is defiantly going to hurt the game. But I really like it. Its not CoD, I don't know why people were expecting it to be anything like that. The SMART system works surprisingly well and the movement is pretty fluid. Even when you get knocked down you still maintain a reasonable amount of control. There isn't really a lot to complain about with this game. Balanced weapons, objective missions (which is apparently more repetitive that a game of Domination on CoD?), team focused combat (every class has support features.) The ability to change your loadout on the fly. I will say this. I would have liked to have been able to change my body type mid-mission in case I need to go from light runner to support or vice versa but it makes me play more tactically. Also of note would be the dialog. It can get annoying to hear about the command center thats being fought over 40 times back to back with the same phrases over and over. Other than that though its a brilliant game and I can't wait to play online. The bots are dumb (As they are in most shooters. Dumb or omnipotent) and I'm interested to see what humans are going to do. Bottom line, if you wanted a different version of the same shooter you've been playing for around 3 years now you'll be disappointed. If your open to something new, give it a try. Its pretty sick
The first level of each challenge is pretty easy but the second level, don't go solo. Unless your playing parkour this you need buddies since the enemies flood you. Also word of advice, For your primmary weapon use a shotgun for solo challenges. Use your best SMG for the secondary weapon.
@tx47e How absolutely insightful. Please, do not hesitate to post more of your opinions in the future! >.>
Fact is, we were all taken for a bunch of wankers. Its an absolute farce for Bethesda to push BRINK out 6 months before completion because RAGE is due in 4 months. Summer is here and im not sure if i can speak for the majority of this thread but i dont really care to get too deep into a new shooter. Rage in September would be good timing, and then Brink (F**KING FINISHED) for December. Im glad i returned Brink for the full amount the following day and put it on LA NOIRE.
@Max_Payne2011 More to the point why use a game guide section to give a dim, unenlightening opinion on a game. ehhhhhh Duh?
So many people judging this game without even playing it! "Professional" reviews can be biased. Play it before discrediting it, guys. I find this game to be an excellent breath of fresh air. The AI is dull for now, but have you played TF2 with bots? Or CS:S with bots? AI can't compare to human. I love it, and don't regret my purchase.
I agree that it has the technical issues that they state but they are not as bad as they make them out to be. The worst of the bunch is the online lag witch is fixable via patch as are most of the other complaints. It is definitely a switch up from other shooters. Movement is similar Crysis/Crysis2 with the addition of S.M.A.R.T. but had the build and tech tree like system of BoarderLands. In the over all I think the action is fun and can be testing. Given some patches in the future the game with be much smoother and player friendly for the people who currently have issues with it. @ 2Chase I don't think it deserved a 6 maybe a 7 at the low end 8 to 8.5 tops.
i had reserved brink but didn't get it because i ended up getting c.2 instead when i should have just gotten brink. but i am one of those people who do the dumbest things like get the wrong game that i had reserved but did not get. so i hope that i will get brink sometime.
@2chase Yes, I'm admitting that it has problems. Would it make my opinion any more credible if I openly stated that it was perfect, despite the occasional face-beating at the hands of lag? No, I think that would be worse. The thing is, it isn't nearly as bad as "you hear" they are - you state that the problems with the game are beyond repair (or, so you hear) whereas the truth is, a few patches, a few bug fixes will do the game wonders... Heck, even just installing the game to your harddrive makes a huge difference.
@conpanbear there are no melee weapons. Grenades are abilities based on your class and use up your supply meter. The Soldier has Molotov and flash Bangs, Operatives have stickies and caltrops, and Medics have revival grenades. All classes can also use standard frags or attach grenade launchers to assault rifles.
I picked this up yesterday & after playing a couple of games and getting my bearings it is quite fun. The reviews are acurate with there complaints. For me this games success is going to rise & fall on the amount of online activity. A good time with scores of people online and playing, it's a bore otherwise as the A.I. bots just don't measure up. Give this a try if you want something a little diffrent than your call of duty or halo clones. 7 out 10 for me.
@Fayt1986 Yeah me too, I think I'll be looking at some other Bethesda titles this year like Rage and Skyrim.
@ThePurpleBubble You're allowed to have any opinion you'd like. But you're admitting that one of the better shooters you've ever played has technical issues and is lacking in maps. That really discredits your opinion. It just doesn't seem like anyone is aggressively resisting the overall 6 rating given by Gamespot and IGN. That's why all the interest I once had in Brink has diminished.
@ conpanbear There are frag grenades, flashbangs and molotovs. That might not be a complete list. You get a standard melee punch or shove attack with your gun for close quarters, but I don't think there are any melee weapons.
