Genre Awards

The Genre Awards:
It has become increasingly difficult to pigeonhole games. As computers become more and more powerful, game developers are capable of combining what were once disparate genres in the same title. Sure, it makes for a better game with much greater depth, but this is the time of year when things get a little confusing for the staff of a computer games publication. While our standard genres still work reasonably well, for the purposes of these awards, we have added a new category. Inspired by Interstate '76 and Wing Commander Prophecy, two games that combine compelling action and simulation gameplay elements, we have created the Action/Simulation genre (bet you can't guess who the contenders are!).

For each genre, we've elected a winner as well as a runner-up - with the notable exception of RPGs. It's sad, we know, but we felt that only one RPG was deserving of an accolade this year. As for the rest of the categories, there are plenty of clear-cut winners and runners-up - and others we'll probably hear about for weeks to come.
