Best Expansion Pack Starcraft Expansion Pack: Brood War
Publisher: Blizzard Developer: Blizzard "Brood War completely revitalizes Blizzard's everlasting real-time strategy game." -Vik Saggeran, GameSpot Review Until now, expansion packs have typically offered more of the same, and that's what gamers learned to accept. But Blizzard's Brood War went far beyond the call of duty, by introducing new units and tweaking balance to fundamentally change and ultimately improve Starcraft's already superb gameplay. Publisher: Blizzard Developer: Blizzard "Blizzard's Battle.net will undoubtedly be humming with heavy activity for months to come." - Clint Wheelock, GameSpot Player Review Starcraft multiplayer games are addictive, deep, and fun. And if that weren't testament enough to Starcraft's staying power as a multiplayer game, consider that today, more than 35,000 people can be found playing Starcraft on Blizzard's Battle.net each day. Nearly a year after its release, Starcraft continues to engage with its multiplayer magic. Publisher: Activision Developer: Activision "It's going to take a lot of effort for someone to crank out a better action/strategy game than Battlezone." - Stephen Poole, GameSpot Review While 48,000 may seem like a lot of units sold, Activision's Battlezone seemed primed for best-seller status. It had everything going for it: great graphics, good sound effects, and plenty of hype. Moreover, it more than lived up to its hype - it was a truly original and enjoyable game. But according to PC Data, Battlezone sold less than 50,000 units between its release in March and November. It's certainly not a paltry number, but Battlezone deserved a wider audience. Perhaps we just aren't ready for the action/strategy genre? Read the review Download the demo Nominees: Warhammer: Dark Omen Rage of Mages
