The PlayStation 3 is coming into its own with Blu-ray on the rise, the Home interface on the way, and a solid stable of exclusive games. Some rather large price cuts also didn't hurt the console's palatibility. Massive improvements to the PlayStation Network have also made the PS3 a formidable competitor to the Xbox 360. For the late adopters, we've compiled a list of five must-dos once you get your console. Read on to find out what you should do to make the most of your new purchase.

HDTV

If the Xbox 360 requires an HDTV, then that goes double for the PlayStation 3. PlayStation 3 games output fantastic visuals at 1080p, and the built-in Blu-ray player sweetens the deal. In short, Blu-ray does to DVD what the DVD did to VHS - a big improvement. The added clarity and color accuracy will make you want to rewatch all of your favorites.

HDTVs cost as little as $300 these days, and prices on larger screens continue to drop. A few years back you could expect to pay $2,000 to $3,000 for a 50-inch screen. Nowadays you can find one for a little more than $1,000. To properly use an HDTV, make sure to connect your console with an appropriate cable, an HDMI cable if possible, or component video cables if that isn't an option. Feel free to penny-pinch on the cables. Unless you need tremendously long cables, the cheapest set will likely work just fine.

Games

Little Big Planet       Uncharted       Resistance       MotorStorm       Heavenly Sword       Metal Gear Solid 4

The PlayStation 3 has a solid lineup of exclusive games to choose from. On the shooter side of the spectrum, check out Resistance: Fall of Man and Metal Gear Solid 4. For the racing fanatics, MotorStorm and Ridge Racer 7 are both excellent choices. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Heavenly Sword both offer up awesome experiences in the action genre. Little Big Planet should be great for laughs and a nearly limitless playing experience from its user-contributed content. Don't forget about all of the great cross-console content, including (to name a few) Grand Theft Auto 4, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and The Orange Box.

Online Games

Mortal Kombat 2       Tekken 5       Bionic Commando       Super Stardust HD       Mega Man 9

The PlayStation 3 has some great values sitting in its PlayStation Network. Download games such as Super Stardust HD, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and Tekken 5. These games have amazing production values, great gameplay and won't set you back more than $20. Take a trip down memory lane with games such as Mega Man 9 and Mortal Kombat 2. Enter your credit-card information into the PS3 to buy games, or head down to your nearest retailer to grab PSN Cards in increments of $20 and $50.

It really depends on what you plan to do with your PS3 and your budget that will determine what you get for your PS3.

(1)PSN account and the (2)HD TV is so that you can experience PS3 the way its suspose to be experience and play an (3)Blu Ray movie on a Standard TV and talking on all the Forums about how Blu Ray isn't all that great. (4)PlaystationHome and not run around talkin smack but to find new friends other than your own personal friends to play (5)Online-multiplayer with. And for that experience I recomment games like R1 and R2, Killzone 2,COD4 to name a few.

buying games like call of duty 4,devil may cry 4,GTA 4 etc.,is a waste of your money if your talking about the frst game you should buy because it doesn't give you a diffrence between buying a PS3 or an XBOX 360 or a PC,i choose my consles starting from how many of my friends have it so we can play online, and the exclusives that the consle have, and the kind of multimidea it can play, and importantly check the price,if you are looking forward to buy a consle than think about the things i said before buying any consle.

you don't need an HDTV to have a next generation experience just buy a big normal tv,but an HDTV with your PS3 that is alot of money, then just buy a gaming pc,and what is the use of a consle that costs the same as a gaming pc,i buy a gaming system because it costs less than a gaming pc,but the PSN card is an essintail for PS3 owners with it you can go back to the old days with your PS1 and even buy yourself a new ride, and a blu-ray disc movie is not that important because all the games use blu-ray disc so buy games like MGS4 that feel more like movies, and a charger is the most stuipd thing to buy for PS3,the PS3 can charge with a connection that works while your playing, overall all of the those things are a waste of your money, buy whatever you want people,it is about what you want from your PS3 and what you need, but if you want my advice the first game you should buy is an exclusive PS3 game, because those kind of games are the reason you didn't buy an XBOX 360 or WII,there are exclusives for everyone if you are a little kid or want to buy something for your child than little big planet is the best thing you can find,if you are a teen and looking for some bloody fun without any nudity or drugs than buy infamous,if you are a mature looking for some intense fun and don't mind nudity buy MGS4,which means PS3 have the best exclusive list that you may not find on other consles.

at least a 2.1 speaker system with a decent subwoofer is good for the movies and music, as well as games.
