God of War II may use the same engine as the original God of War, but that doesn't mean the graphics are the same. The game development team was able to polish up the graphics and design more ambitious levels for the sequel. When asked to describe the graphical improvement, God of War II director Cory Barlog told GameSpot, "It's a huge difference. It's not as huge as in a generational difference where people say look at PS2 versus PS3, but Kratos, the model of Kratos in one and the model of Kratos in two, in God of War II is astounding--the quality difference."

Kratos's clothing is much more detailed in God of War II. His shoes and loincloth in particular show extra texture detail and great shadowing. The chains wrapped around his forearms don't have a 3D normal-mapped look, but the textures still look sharper in the new game.

Try not to look directly into the light.

Other improvements include full-screen graphical effects, such as light bloom. The game doesn't abuse the effect, so you'll be impressed each time you see it. Barlog also mentioned a few changes that might not be immediately noticeable in screenshots, such as the ability to get more characters onscreen and a faster-moving Kratos. He runs around faster, but the animation remains completely fluid.

The graphical improvements aren't just technical either. The most powerful art changes can be found in level design. God of War II has "bigger, more expansive levels" where the size contrast between the player and level architecture gives the game an epic quality. It's not all eye candy either. According to Barlog, levels have increased in scope to integrate more puzzles into entire maps rather than segment each one off in a single room. All of the smart design decisions ultimately mean that God of War II plays as well as it looks.

    There is a big differnce betweenthe first 2 games but not that big of a differnce for the psp. I wonder if the 3rd god of war for ps3 has better graphics than the first 3 games.

    Trust me CoO has excellent graphics as a PSP game but it is no where near as good as GOW 2 but it is as good as GOW 1 graphics though if not just a little sharper.

    elite-ferns1 compareing prince of persia to god of war in action you must be crazy kratos would woop both the prince and that ninja and when you put on the ps3 i dont know why any of think its going to look better becuse the game is made how its made a vidoe card is not going to change nothin -helix

    In terms of action adventure series, god of war is my 3rd favourite. (after Prince of persia and ninja gaiden) I love the combat, story, graphics etc of this game. A definate nominee for game of the year.

    I played GoW 1 & 2 In quick succession and both through my PS3,
    in all honesty the ps3 doesnt do anything to it but i was playing it on a 42" HD Tv and there was definatly a huge difference in not necessarily in the quality of the graphics but squeezing more power out of what they've already got, you do notice that the Environments in GoW 2 are a lot more detailed and the frame rate is a lot more stable along with it

    The only thing the PS3 Noticeably did was eradicate any kinda of loading time

    Kratos looks better graphically and texturically in God of War II...
    God of War II has bigger and more explorable areas.....
    There is a reason they made this to compare God of War to God of War II..
    PS3 peoples need to buy a PS3 and God of War II and see if it looks way better....
    God of War II > God of War..GOW I and II for PS2...more sales

    Parece estar bueno pero yo jugue el primero y estaba bueno pero a la larga aburre.....te cuento termine pegando asta con las patas de rana y en ese momento ya no podia ver mas al pelado tirando piñas.....Saludos

    i love GOW but what is the point of this ........ oh and about the pics i dont care how equaly they look i just care if the game has a nice story and stuff.....

    For the most part they look pratically identical besides the slight additions to clothing texture.

    The graphics do look better, if you look closely, just check his cloth, the chains on his wristbands and shinguards and the enemies look more detailed.
    GoW2 is a nice closing chapter for the ps2 indeed.

    How stupid of me not to realize! The God of War team must have signed a contract with Sony to make two God of War games for the PS2 system.

    Actually, I think they made it for the PS2 so that they can increase sales of the first God of War. When consumers move on to new systems, they are ever less inclined to purchase games for their older systems, not even to see the first part of a story.
