Land Seven: Finish The Japanese

Well, you've finally gotten the attention of both of the Japanese brothers, and they're determined to make their stand against you now, before you manage to reach their Aztec masters. They've got you boxed in here, as well, with a difficult land in front of you. Oddly enough, you should have plenty of ore to work with here; it'll be wood that'll wind up being a rare substance, due to the rocky surroundings you begin, and the fact that there are no other large forests anywhere near your starting area.

Objective 2: This appears to require you to be at above 90% Goodness, or somewhat higher. If you've consciously been good throughout the game, then you'll probably earn this tribute as soon as you start the round. There may also be an Evil variant of this, depending on your choice of alignment.

Objective 3: Usually villagers aren't attacked by enemy soldiers, for whatever reason, although enemy archers might take potshots at them. There's not a whole lot you can do about this one, unless you're willing to completely micromanage your villagers. You can wall yourself in and keep the gates shut the entire round, which might work. Even with a bunch of villagers roaming well away from our city, we still managed to keep this objective intact until the end of the map.

Objective 4: Obviously enough, wait until you have a large population, then build a large number of small platoons. You'll need multiple armories for this, since each one can only create so many platoons.

Objective 5:This is pretty tough to accomplish, especially since you can easily wind up with an odd number of civilians. Completing this will probably require you to make a large army after you've won the map, then destroy your city and kill all of the civilians within it, to ensure that there's no one alive who isn't in the army. Alternately, you can try destroying your town, then wounding a squad and placing all of the civilians into the army by pouring them onto the platoon, but we're not sure if that would actually work or not. We're also not sure if this counts old men or not. Probably more trouble than it's worth, at any rate.

Objective 10: It doesn't seem to matter whether you use this on a wounded character or not; just dump it on your townsmen and you should get the tribute.

Objective 11: You need to wipe out a whole platoon to earn this.

Hidden Objective: There's another man sitting by a campfire, near the sea by your starting city here. As per usual, you can pick him up and throw him, and the farther he goes, the more tribute you'll get.

General Strategies

Obviously enough, you need to get yourself walled in here as soon as possible, at least on one side of the area, so that you can force enemy troops to come around the long way and run straight into your creature. Building out to the far wall segment will take a while, but it's doable. Each of the walls that you build should have some kind of extremely Impressive building just within the walls, so that you can fling fireballs or large rocks at your opponents as they come in.

After an hour or two of playtime, you'll notice that your enemies will start approaching in greater numbers and sending a fairly constant stream of catapults your way. You'll probably need to keep your archers off the walls when the catapults start coming towards you. If you've extended your area of influence far enough, you'll probably be able to drop fireballs on the catapults as they come, although it'll take three or four to really do them in.

The Wonder you're going up against here is the Earthquake, but we happened to see this go off a few times without ever destroying anything more devastating than a wall section. Just build out your influence to ensure that it encompasses the ridge face near the closest wall section to you, and your foe will be forced to start his Earthquake down the ridge a bit. It rarely seems to head towards your town, but of course we might've just gotten lucky. Unfortunately, if it does hit, it'll do severe damage, both when it opens up the fissures in the ground and when it closes them up again, since it instantly destroys buildings near it. If you have any highly critical building, like a Wonder, try to build it close to the center of town to avoid its untimely demise.
