Mission 16: Push Into Carentan
Objective: Secure the industrial region of Carentan.
Ah yes, the ever-popular tactic of taking half a town with seven dudes. That's called tenacity. You only have two grenades here, and there's going to be two tanks in the mission, so...yeah, don't use ‘em on infantry. Also, it's worth noting that the last portion of this mission is the hardest, so if your teams take too many casualties, or even if you have a couple of guys who've been seriously hurt before then, you may just want to start over and try again. This mission is going to take a long time to beat on Difficult mode.
You won't be able to move too far from your start point, as there's an MG that's hovering over the road here that'll keelhaul your troops if you attempt to move too far. To bypass it, move your fire team up the alley to the west of your starting position, then have them take up a firing position near the small wall at the end of the alley so that they have cover from the Germans there. If you then order them to fire on the MG position (should be the red dot furthest to the left), they'll force the Germans on it to retreat back around cover to the south, allowing you to take your assault team around to the end of the road there and flank both them and the other set of infantry. Assault anyone remaining in the area, and switch out your M1A1 for the BAR near the corpse behind the machinegun before moving on.
The next little courtyard is where things get tough. There'll be two teams on your position, one to the southwest and one to the west. If you get your teams into position behind the stone wall here, you should be able to completely supress the western team while you take your Garand and use it to pick off the two soldiers to the southwest. With the western team suppressed, you'll be able to move around to the south and get into a position to destroy them with your BAR.
Unfortunately, you won't have any time to rest on your laurels, as two more teams will pop their heads up to the southwest. They'll be well behind the walls, so you'll have a hard time hitting them from your current position. You'll want to move your fire team up behind the wall which the westernmost German group was crouching behind earlier; this will net you a bit better vantage point on the new positions. If you hide behind your team here, you should be able to use your Garand or your K98, if you have one, to pick off a few of the Germans in the industrial ruins, but don't risk your health too much, as you still have a long way to go until the end of the level.
If you're able to pick off one or both teams of the Germans, then you'll have to leave the yard you're in to the north, but tread cautiously, as there are a pair of Germans in one of the yards there that'll fire on you as you proceed. If you use your heavy weapon to suppress them, then you should be able to move your assault team around to the right side to get a vantage point on them.
Now the fun's really begun, though, as a tank will show up near the factories to the southwest. Now, assuming your teams and yourself are in relatively good health, what you're going to want to do is wrap all the way around to the west, then cut back and work your way south to the large metallic silos there, leaving your teams back and well out of harm's way. If you can stay out of sight of the tank, you'll eventually reach a checkpoint.
