Chapter 7--Multiplayer Strategies
This section covers general multiplayer strategies for both versus and cooperative game modes.
Versus
Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven's competitive multiplayer mode offers much more than just the three playable characters from the single-player game. It's possible to play as many of the enemies and even some of the bosses. The roster of characters includes Rikimaru, Ayame, Tesshu, Tajima, Nasu, Hamada, Jonin Red, Jonin Blue, Chibot, Kunoichi, Kagura, Kenpo Bouzu, Semimaru, Jinnai, Onikage, Ninja Dog, Tatsumaru, and Mr. D CEO (the boss from the Through the Portal bonus mission). Not all of the characters are available from the beginning. Unlock them using the cheat code (unlock all characters), or defeat the particular boss in the single-player game.
Many of the enemy and boss attacks and maneuvers mirror those in the single-player game. Most of the characters feature combo strings similar to those of the three single-player characters. For instance, pressing square multiple times in succession will initiate a combination. You can also throw in a 360-degree spin attack by rotating the left analog stick 360 degrees during the combination.
When you're close to your opponent, press the circle button to initiate a throw or grab. Pressing X and circle at the same time initiates another of your character's special moves. For instance, the CEO launches his fireball, and Onikage does a powerful jump kick. Don't forget your roll maneuvers (hold down R1, then press X and a direction). Also, holding down R2 and pressing jump can be a useful maneuver; your character will jump forward, twist around, and land facing the back of your opponent.
