Weak!!, intuitive my asian butt!! I could control my nephews better just by giving them voice commands then this rotten piece of stink bomb!!! Just to illustrate to you how bad the controls are, I'll use this an an example. I would have to say that I've have better control over a game character who had Parkinson then this game. No offense of course.
We meet with Ubisoft and get our first look at this upcoming first-person shooter for the Nintendo Wii.
During a recent visit to Ubisoft's San Francisco office we had an opportunity to spend some quality time with a preview build of Far Cry Vengeance. Essentially an enhanced remake of the Xbox game Far Cry Instincts Evolution, the upcoming Wii game will include all of that game's content along with three new maps that have been shoehorned into the story-driven single-player mode. Other new features for the game will include several weapons and a handful of new vehicles, including the new Jeep Patriot.
Before being allowed to get our hands on the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller for ourselves, we were given a brief demonstration of the game's controls by a representative from Ubisoft Montreal. The first thing we noticed about the Wii version of the game was that its graphics are comparable to those in the aforementioned Xbox game, with beach environments and thick vegetation that will be instantly recognizable to anyone who has played the Xbox version. As much as we wanted to look at the game, it was the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk that we were paying the most attention to in the hope that we might pick up some pointers ahead of our own gameplay session.
We're pleased to report that after about 10 minutes of walking around and surviving encounters with enemies more by luck than by judgment (we were playing on the easy difficulty setting), we came to grips with the control setup and ultimately found it to be quite intuitive. While moving around the environment using the Nunchuk's analog stick, we were able to jump simply by pulling the Nunchuk backward sharply and to crouch or go prone by tapping down on the Wii Remote's directional pad. Melee attacks are performed by swinging the Wii Remote in a slashing motion, while thrusting the remote forward will zoom in for more precise aiming with ranged weapons. When you're dual-wielding any of the pistols, machine guns, shotguns, and such in the game, the trigger buttons on the remote and the Nunchuk are used to fire each gun independently, although both weapons will always be pointed at the same onscreen crosshair.
Predictably, the targeting system for grenades is far less precise, almost to the point of being nonexistent. When throwing a grenade, you simply face the direction you want to throw it in, hold down the trigger on the Nunchuk to simulate pulling out the pin, and then make a throwing motion. Judging the distance of our throws proved to be quite difficult at first, but after spending a few minutes at a practice range conveniently located in one of the game's three new maps, we found that the system worked well. Other controls that we played around with during our time with Far Cry Vengeance included using the directional pad to switch between weapons, and shaking the Nunchuk from side to side to restore health in between firefights using one of our feral abilities.
The level we played, which took approximately an hour for us to beat on the easy setting (and with a Ubisoft representative steering us in the right direction on more than one occasion), started out on a beach and then, in a quite linear fashion, saw us shooting our way through a jungle, an enemy base, and a tourist hot spot. First-aid kits and body armor pickups were scattered quite liberally throughout the map, and we were able to swap out our weapons for those from fallen enemies every time we killed someone.
Far Cry Vengeance is currently scheduled for release in mid-December. We look forward to bringing you a full review of the game soon.
I had faith in this game.....wonder wat happened. the preview said the graphics were like the Xbox version, then they turn out blurry and crappy. Wat happened? seriously? and the enemies i haer are dumb, but they say they nearly survived a fire fight. Jeez wonder wat happened to the whole game at shimpment time
even this little bastard managed to sneak into Wii, there must be a more tight licensing in place from Nintendo.
Ouch, too bad the game stunk. It's originally awesome. Wii can't take too many of these deficient remakes.
I know everyone says do not talk about graphics blah blah blah but you do not realize how bad this game is and especially looks. Trust me I like the Wii very much. Zelda rules! This game is just BAD BAD BAD.
This game is Horrid. I have the X-Box version and it looks beautiful. This game looks like the Hard Driving Arcade game Atari made in the early 90's, only with GUNS. I think the the Wii is the **** but this game is absolutely awful. Bad textures, or in some cases NO textures. And do not buy this control argument the control is HORRID. Do not buy these half assed ports. If you do they will only dump more of them on us.
http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/751/751136p1.html This game is apparently really bad!
Ubisoft made red steel as well which was a piss poor game due to its annoying controls. I hope they realise what went wrong and that they have not incorporated the same control mechanics.
man u ppl who complain about how the graphics suck. wii isnt about graphics like ps3 or xbox360, its about how fun it is. all you nid are smoove graphics n gameplay thats all. id rather have a game with great game play and bad graphics over a game with awsome graphics and bad gameplay. wouldnt u?
I've seen this games in action and I'm telling ya those screen shots make it look better than it actually is and those screen shots are small to make it look sharper. I'm not saying this to be a fanboy but the xbox version looks visualy better than this version. Its ports like this that makes the Wii seem more like a repackaged gamecube. Mario and Metroid Prime 3 are the only 2 games that show that the Wii can produce some nice visuals but every other game that's out there for the Wii could easliy be on the cube without any loss of visual quality. There are too many games on the Wii that should be only on the DS. Why spend money on a new console when all the games can be made the same for cube and DS. Nintendo needed a new console becasue I don't believe Nintendo could have sold the motion controller as an add-on for the cube as everyone would have seen it as another gimmick eyetoy. If no one wanted next-gen gfx then we would have stuck with our PS2's or xbox's. And we could just have a motion controller add-on for the cube. We buy the next-gen for that leap in technology to provide us with better visuals, better physics, better AI and bigger worlds with more realism all this can give you more immersive gameplay. I think the Wii fails to do any of these and all its doing is giving you the same games that are on the cube. The Wii-mote will only give you a different way to control the same game. How will Zelda on Wii be any better than on Cube? What makes that Zelda game good? is it the Wii-mote or will the game be brilliant on Cube using the analog sticks and buttons? We constiantly say its all about the games, we've never said its all about the controllers. I know your gonna hate me for saying that about Nintendo but its just how I feel at the moment about Nintendo and their Wii. I mean I'm nodding my head towards the Wii in a - what going on fashion - because it doesn't seem like new hardware to me and the games aren't saying 'this is what's on the Wii and they're really good, buy me' Even my Nintendo fan friend is finding it hard to look forward about the Wii games. He wants the Zelda, Mario and Metroid 3 but so far that's all there is for him for the whole of 2007. 3 exclusive AAA games for a whole year and you have to be a Nintendo fan to want them, there's nothing that could lure fans from other consoles to the Wii?
This game looks awesome I'm really hoping it doesn't suck in terms of length, ai, control, and difficulty. worst case scenario it'll be an easy 8 hour run with enemies as dumb as paint and controls from hell. But i hold out hope farcry is generally a series that doesn't fall apart in those areas at least the first one didn't
@dazzzilla You're the badest lier i've ever meet. I don't konow how it is in US but in germany everone knows the specs of the wii: http://www.electronic-arts.de/publish/news/aktuell/wii_special_seite_3.html Now look at the specs of the Xbox. The only reason why the wii shows better graphics than the xbox is the RAM and the new Shader Models the ATI GPU supported. But i like the Hardware of the Wii. It's okay. I only don't like games who looks like they are from the gamecube when the console can more. You know what I mean? :-) And Far Cry: Vengeance is one of this games.
Trickymaster forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/426648 Read it then compare it to the Xbox Rallisoprt Challange 2 has the same graphics that Forza Motorsport 1 had and Gran Turismo 4 had equal Graphics to Forza Infact Forza was started being prdouced in Q4 2003 as soon as Gt4 got delayed so they could compete yes Forza was succesfull but no were as close as Gt4 I very musch doubt that Xbox is stronger. Wii has 300+mhz GPU power thats like 3x Xbox's
Oh! Sorry I was wrong. The Wii has more power than the xbox. Look at Nfs: Carbon Wii Version: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2006/334/reviews/933689_20061201_screen006.jpg Xbox Version: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2006/298/933690_20061026_screen002.jpg The Xbox Version has low res textures and no many polygons. The Wii Version has high res textures and many polygons.
Trickymaster why are u talking about graphics? Remember nintendo is about gameplay and creativity. So please dont mention graphics because people who own wiis do not care about them. I am sick and tired of hearing about graphics. Go to the PS3 or 360 forums were people talk about that stuff.
Better resolution configurations doesn't mean it's stronger. The truth is that developers have said that Wii is above the original XBox, that's all that needs to be said. I think I'll trust the people that are actually making the games and working directly with the console, thank you very much.
Please don't discuss about this ugly game. Crysis will have a very good gameplay and a great graphics. The wii have better graphics because the Manufacturer doesn't exhaust the Hardware of the Xbox(1). The Xbox can 720p and 1080i too. You only have to mod the chip or something like that. The Wii? Only 480p. Do you really think that the xbox is not stronger than the wii? Excite Truck (the grapichs demo of the wii) http://www.playfuls.com/images/screenshots/wii/Excite_Truck/0001.jpg Rallisport Challenge 2 http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2004/screen0/917536_20040116_screen042.jpg http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2004/screen0/917536_20040402_screen003.jpg
The graphics (to me) look only marginally better than the original FarCry PC game graphics, but I really do not care. The control system implementation and the gameplay style make this the Wii killer app.
"The gamecube was more powerfull then the xbox,And the 360 has alot of good games!!! " You're kidding right, the gamecube was not more powerful the xbox, just the ps2. Even though they didn't have many hardware busting games on their it was still weaker than the xbox. BTW: this game looks tight and might be worthy of me buying a wii.
If the Wii was only as strong as XBox, we wouldn't be seeing games like Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Smash Bros Brawl. That, and numerous developers (including one for Far Cry Vengeance) have flat out said that Wii is stronger than XBox. ___________________________________________________________ And cyborg100000, try something like Trauma Center and Rayman, and you'll see what the Wii remote can truly do. Those two games are easily the best uses of the controller so far, as their entire gameplay is centered around them, and in both cases it works very well.
Well have you ever heard that games can have good graphics AND good gameplay? Just because 360 or ps3 has really good graphics doesn't mean that their games lack gameplay. Nintendo seem tacky and cheap now that the wii has come out. A lot of their games are platforms, retro and based on movies (cars e.g). And i haven't seen their controller do anything special, it seems kinda limited on all the games. Anyway look at halo, half life 2, WoW, oblivion and BF2. They all have really good graphics (arguablly the best) but that doesn't mean the games are shallow in gameplay and that goes for the 360 and PS3 alike!
The Wii graphics is bad. There's no hope. The xbox and the wii have the same power. Only Nintendofanboys sais that the wii has more poer than the xbox. What damn graphics. It's better when the game never comes out. (Sorry for my terrible english: I'm german) ^^ That only can a german keyboard ü ö ä ? I think...
Ricecake, the Wii has twice the graphics as the Gamecube, so to say that a Gamecube with the new controller would be the same is idiotic. Look at the specs, have you even bothered? It's better than the Gamecube, and it's better than the Xbox. The problem is that the publishers are still figuring out the difference in the controls, and until they get comfortable with that, the graphics won't be up to par. That doesn't mean that the Wii's graphics are bad, it'll just take time. Look at Resident Evil 4, the graphics are just as good as the Xbox and the PS2, and people said that the Gamecube wouldn't be able to handle graphics like that when the Gamecube came out, there were haters like you back then too Give them time, they'll figure it out. Besides, it's not all about graphics. Have you ever heard of something called gameplay? I've played a few games on the Wii (I don't own one myself, but plan to get one for christmas) and they are fun; something I can't say about a lot of games on the XBox 360 or PS3.
Ricecake, Motion sensing has not been around forever, no offense but conventional controllers have been around forever. Who cares what Graphic power Wii has. Gameplay immerses you in it, Graphics are just something to make it a bit better. Graphics are nothing, I just want fun for Wii, who cares about graphics, in fact, now that I think about it, Graphics are for losers!
Sorry RiceCake but other games have been acceptable. Madden from EA, Zelda, a few others. The point is its not just graphic's its gameplay too and a lot of the titles out blow because the company's are more interested in making a fast buck than quality games.
Ive lost all the respect I had for ubisoft. I see them as just trying to make a fast buck off the popularity of the Wii. All there games have been subpar and it just shows the way they look at the Wii as a 3ed rate console that they dont want to put games out for. For the love of god STOP puting games out for XB360 and PS3, then tossing Wii controles on as a afterthought. I would like to see them build new games from the ground up for the Wii. I wont buy anymore ubisoft games for my Wii becuse they ubisuck!
Funny, Gamespot says it looks like the Xbox version. Every picture and video I see, looks like the Xbox version, so anybody who says it looks worse is high. Or seriously deficient. "The first thing we noticed about the Wii version of the game was that its graphics are comparable to those in the aforementioned Xbox game, with beach environments and thick vegetation that will be instantly recognizable to anyone who has played the Xbox version." N64? Please. You guys are so high. I just watched the videos here on gamespot, and if you watch gameplay video 2, it looks damned fine. The water doesn't looks great, not "Simply flat, ugly, totally out dated". Either those of you who are complaining, are liars, or you're totally blind.
Excall ---> I wonder WHY is it so huge diference betwen official Far Cry Vangeance trailer for Wii (which seems to be captured directly from the game) and gemplay videos available at gamespot and few other site? Initial screens and Ubi trailer shows maybe not ground breaking visuals but at least solid and quite pretty in some moments. There were great water efects and relatively good textures. So where are that all visual candies? At "in-game" videos at gamespot and other site everything looks much worse. Instead of realatively good textures form Ubi trailer we have horrible low res textures (somentimes just one-colored). Instead of shimmering great-looking water we have flat one-color field. It's worse than XBOX, it's worse than playstation 2, it is about Nintendo 64 level! Hard to believe how can it be... I really hope that Ubi do what they can to match the final appearence to the visual level of the trailer they release recently which level is very good considering Wii power. If not - It will be without doubt the ugliest game not only for Wii but imho also the ugliest console game within at least recent 5-6 yers.
I fully agree with NFSVFAN - the game in it's current state isn't really comparible to X-box, it actually looks worse. While the Wii isn't aiming at Next-gen graphics, I still think it is important for it to boast "better than current-gen graphics." Being unable to beat the original X-box is not a good thing for Nintendo.
i agree with ben_coggins down there. I loved Far Cry on the PC until I got about half-way through the game and all kinds of goofy looking monsters started attacking me.
I saw early screens, and first official movie which look great, and now I'm warching in-game trailers which are much worse. Maybe GS editors which plays the game can answer - Where is that great ("looking like made using shaders") water from screens and first trailer?? That water looked fantastic, but what we can see now Is horrible - pathetic water efects or rather lack of them. Simply flat, ugly, totally out dated. Difrence from this and first trailer is HUGE. If anyone from people playing the final version can write about graphics in FCV especially water efects I would be thankful.
far cry got too stupid on the computer version. all the monsters and stuff ruined it. at the start on beach levels was sick as.
I love Far Cry! I have the original on PC and instincts on Xbox. I can't wait for this game, in fact, it will be my first wii game and I will buy a wii after the first price drop, so hopefully that won't be too long after Vengeance is released.
"Well of course there's only one crosshair for dual weapons...the Nunchuk doesn't have the same capabilities as the Wiimote." Thanks for saying what was on everyones minds, X'D
i remember that mission it on the xbox version. if anyone has already played the fc games i wouldnt advise them to get this its thee same stuff but on wii
FarCry on the PC was the first game since Halo to completely reinvent the FPS. Hell this was the first FPS game to actually TOP Halo in overall content. Now the series has been milked to death, how much more FC can the world handle, I'd like FarCry 2 for PC, go back home where it all began, where the REAL, ORIGINAL FC abides....
hmmm....Some1 on the first page asked if they're gunna make a farcry for pc....-_- even though FarCry was on PC originaly....until they made remakes for the consels
