It's a familiar satisfying experience from Far Cry 3

User Rating: 8 | Far Cry 4 PS3

Free your homeland in Ubisoft's latest game, Far Cry 4.

After the hit that is Far Cry 3 on 2012, Ubisoft use the same winning formula for Far Cry 4 while adding some new features. Is it enough to continue the awesomeness of Far Cry 3? or does it become a lazy carbon copy of its predecessor?

The Story (6/10)

+ Pagan Min is another great main villain

+ Great script

- not many interesting over the top (parodied-version) villains or friends

- Just like Vaaz, Pagan Min didn't get too many screen time

- the theme of the story is less provoking than Far Cry 3's Insanity

- the plot and character's motivation feels a bit weak, especially the main character who willingly join a rebel faction to coup a dictator just so he can put his mother's ashes on the country peacefully

The Gameplay (10/10)

+ Familiar core gameplay from Far Cry 3 including the outpost, the tower, looting, hunting, crafting, upgrading, and syringe

+ fluid and precise control

+ the same easy to use stealth mechanism with enemy tag and arrow to locate your enemy and show his awareness

+ tons of standard weapons from handgun, smg, assault rifle, sniper rifle, to shotgun which you can costumize and new 'signature' weapons which is heavily customized weapon that you can collect after doing several challenges

+ tons of side quests to do. From racing, survival racing, bomb defusing, assassination, stealth assassination, destroying propaganda center, rare animal hunting, and many more

+ tons of worthy collectibles like British imperial letters, journals of the main character's father, Yalung masks from a serial killer, propaganda poster, and many more

+ new auto driving that can be activated when you want to shoot while driving

+ you can replay liberated outpost to achieve the most effective or most bloody way to conquer it.

+ new vehicles like the gyrocopter, hovercraft and elephant which is so amazingly satisfying

+ bigger world with tons of interesting places to visit and random event to encounter

+ new grappling hook to climb or jump over hills or cliff

- co-op is now integrated into the campaign, sadly there are no split screen support

The Graphics -PS3 version- (9/10)

+ beautifully crafted Himalayan country with tons of details

+ highly detailed character models and animation

+ pretty smooth framerate most of the time

+ great lightning and particle effects

- in some ways, it feels too much like Far Cry 3

- the items grabbing animation from Far Cry 2 is still missing

The Sound (8.5/10)

+ Troy Baker did it again with amazing performance as Pagan Min

+ solid voice acting from the rest of the casts

+ satisfying weapon sounds

+ pretty entertaining radio dj

- the radio have only a handful of scripts which gets repeated fast

Verdict (8.2/10)

Far Cry 4 is a great follow up to the awesome Far Cry 3, while it can be a bit too familiar and the story isn't as great, it still easily the best FPS on 2014. Far Cry 4 deliver the same familiar satisfying experience as Far Cry 3
