well the game looks very nice and interesting...but what matters most is does it play well and can it simply be fun?  far cry 2 had lots of problems that should be addressed in far cry 3, they've until december to make this game as well as they can. let's hope it doesn't suck.

FarCry2 was fun and had a nice map editor tool that i had some fun with. I enjoyed the diff weapons and what not, had some really fun times and of course a couple OMFTITS awesome moments, but as previously mentioned the tedious tasks of going through camps kept me from actually finishing the game. By the time i made it into the second portion of the map I did a few missions and then just stopped playing. FC3 hopefully will have hopefully eliminated the few issues that hindered FC2.

Dat shark. They should just replace the HUD with the paper map or a GPS, like they had in the second one.

I really didn't like FarCry 2, but uh, this makes me want to try 3.

Yeah i loved the first Far cry, probably STILL my favorite FPS EVER and i thought FC 2 was gona be possibly the best game i'd ever played because open world games are pretty much all i want to play anymore. I played not even two hours and i uninstalled the game right after. The AI unfortunately made all the fighting stupid and boring i HOPE this can be what FC2 should have been.

 @Carton_of_milk  @paulsifer42 I agree FC1 was one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've ever had, and was the beginning of a new era of graphics for PC games.

 @Carton_of_milk I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong, but I hated how EVERY intersection was a fight, and the respawn of guys was ridiculous.  I just got tired of trying to bypass the bad guys so I could get on with the story.

I'm a complete FarCry noob, can someone explain the gist of the game/mechanics?

freshprinceali

 @kohle36 Its a do anything you want, when you want game. The story will be good, and it was built before the open world aspect. Its a AAA version of Just Cause 2 with a BETTER story-line that takes itself way seriously than JC2.

freshprinceali

 @kohle36 You aim your cross-hair at an enemy and shoot. Just kidding, think of it like the open world just cause, but a first person view. Big open island, really big. You can hunt, swim, hang glide, take a boat. Has side missions, jungle populated with dangerous, but beautiful wildlife. You can use stealth with you knife. The weapons vary, but there is a cross bow. Take over territories. Main story-line, don't want to ruin. Runs on Ubisoft's Anvil Next, I presume. Multiplayer, etc.

I hope they've tweaked the damage scale from FC2.  If I unload a clip into a guy's chest, I don't want to see him falling to one knee and then getting up and continuing to shoot me.  1 shot to head -die, shot to leg - fall down, shot to arm - drop gun, 2-3 shots to the body - dead.  I'd rather get less ammo and have my kills be satisfying...

let me know when it has multiplayer then i might look at it again

Kid_Mega

 @sum_guy09 It has competitive multiplayer, 4 player online co-op and another form of co-op for the singleplayer campaign.

The only gripe I had with FC2 was the fact that outposts that you cleared didn't stay cleared. To me it made it pointless to clear the checkpoints and roadblocks if they re-spawned the enemy soldiers every damn day. Other than that I really liked the game, just got frustrated by that though.

splinter10
splinter10 like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 2 Like

 @maverick_76 Respwan every day? You mean every 2 minutes. Literally take out an outpost, drive in a circle come back, and you'll under fire from the same dudes you just smoked.

cody20
cody20

 @maverick_76 Agreed!  as if travelling in FC didn't get old after awhile anyway, now I have to constantly stop and kill these 4 jeeps following me.  Hopefully the potential in FC2 is realized in 3.

Kid_Mega

 @maverick_76 I just read a preview on Kotaku that when you clear  outposts in this the enemies will stay gone. I'm so glad to have read that because it was annoying in the last game.

 @maverick_76 Yeahhh good point.  Driving between towns and avoiding a checkpoint you've already cleared was rather irritating.

I'm sure they've learnt from their mistakes! :)

It all looks very beautiful an all.. but I can't help keep thinking you're going to get attacked every 2 seconds when trying to 'explore'.  Men.. tigers.. (hopefully not malaria to go with it!)

That was my one gripe with FarCry 2, exploration was just one ball-ache after another.

"Just remember eh, none of our guys out there know you're working for us.. just a heads up friend."

EVERY SINGLE MISSION!!  :|

I want this game, but I'm going to read a few reviews first before I do.

Crush_Project
Crush_Project like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @warhawk-geebywasnt the getting aggro so much for me, but the funnelled maps.  You HAD to fight the guys because of the way the maps were drawn.  Fighting the same guys at the same outposts 100 times eventually just became tedius.

i too am probably going to watch this one closely, and will still most likely only pick it up once its become cheap, the bugs are out of it, and they have any dlc's/expansions completed for it.

GT_APE

 @warhawk-geeby I say bring it on! I'll shoot everything that moves. No tiger is safe!!!

warhawk-geeby
warhawk-geeby

 @GT_APE Ahhhhh I thought that with FarCry 2.  Got boring reaaaal quick!  Especially when trying to find the diamonds.  I think I gave up for fear of my health! :p

Although it looks like they're learned from their mistakes, I'm trying my hardest not to get sucked into FC3 like i did for the run up of FC2, biggest disappointment ever.

 @marlobc

 ... they claim  its delayed so they can add more polish and make it the best Far Cry  game ever. So they can rush it and bring it out or just delay it and make it perfect. ;)

 @KUNG-LO I like their style.  Say what you will about Crysis 2, but CryTeks games are always polished (I, for one, enjoyed Crisis 2 from beginning to end).

 @estalling lol, let's hope not! i loved crysis 2, but this really does look insane.

 @radiumbath Crap. I was like "nuh-uh"...then I checked Wikipedia and had my mind blown.   I just assumed, since they are synonymous.  Ubisoft is quickly becoming EA.  That said, it still looks good.

 @Fayt1986

 nope its the Dunia Engine (Enhanced)

rhazzy

 @KUNG-LO Dunia it self is a modded Cryengine...

KUNG-LO
KUNG-LO

 @rhazzy

 True true Dunia was the original CryEngine(1) FC1. Then UBISoft enhanced it for FC2 and called it the Dunia engine, and now its more like Dunia 2.0 for FC3.  The Dunia engine doesn't look bad for FC3 but it isn't as detailed/powerful as the CryTek's CryEngine 3. But as long as the game play is there I'm up for killing some pirates and skinning some tigers just to upgrade my AR-16 sweet.
