- The Bottom Line:
- "Amazing"
Things that are awesome about this game:
Storyline: First and foremost is an amazing storyline. The storyline in this game has everything in it and it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire game. It has twists, drugs, sex, sad moments, funny moments, just about everything a story needs to start and end. It never gets boring, and for the most part works you towards a common goal. And that is to get your friends back safe.
Graphics: The graphics in this game have come so far since the first Far Cry on pc in 2004. Everything from running through the jungle with a tiger or bear after you, to driving a car off the edge of a cliff and diving out, to swimming in the depths of the immense underwater portion of the game, this game has it all. The animations involved in changing weapons, performing takedowns, swimming, skydiving, and just plain running really make the game fluid. Fire, water, and day/night cycles are all also very smooth and realistic.
Audio: The soundtrack to this game is almost worth buying. When I heard the music on the trailers before the game even came out, I knew I was going to buy this game. The music in a game can really drive a certain feel that the creators are trying to get across at different times. E.g. Running through a compound full of enemies shooting at you = fast paced crazy music. Swimming in an underwater cave system = very soft ambient music. This game performs these techniques very well.
Multiplayer: The coop multiplayer in this game is actually really good. It's a completely separate storyline with different characters and its like playing single player with more linearity. Weapons, graphics, and everything else remain intact.
Things most improved on this game:
-No more molaria
-Weapons don't rust/jam up
-Driving is much more realistic (vehicles have weight and handle better)
-Wildlife variety has vastly improved
-Addition of multiplayer that's actually worth playing
Things I didn't like about this game:
There's really only one thing I thought was somewhat annoying, but really had no effect on the game's rating. And that is that the missions throughout the game are fairly easy and manageable. UNTIL....you get to the last like 3 missions. I think i had to play each one like 5 times and felt as though the difficulty went kinda crazy at the end. I know it might just sound like I don't know how to play, but seriously I've seen tons of posts about how hard the last 2 or 3 missions were to the point of it just being aggravating. To me the end of the game should taper off so that you can actually enjoy all of the cutscenes and animations they spent half the games budget on. Don't send me looking for button combinations to press at the end of the game instead of letting me enjoy the end of the storyline. Take it how you will, but I know there's other people out there that feel the same.
In the end, I put about 32 hrs into this game and completed the storyline, all of the side quests on the first island, and found some relics/letters of the dead. There's probably a good 10 more hrs left in the just completing the single player. After that you still have the coop multiplayer and lots of achievements and whatnot. This game is a 100% buy-it. I've played all 3 FarCrys now, and I will buy #4 when it comes out. No doubt. Awesome game altogether!
