It is good, but FLAWED...

User Rating: 8.5 | Far Cry 3 PC
The game play was good and I do recommend Far Cry 3 to all, but there could be a couple of tweaks added. First I was unable to map all of my usual keys on the number pad. The '.' and 'Num Enter' keys were not allowed to be customized like most of my other games (including Far Cry 1 + 2), but they were not used in the game play, so why not let me use them? Second, you cannot skip through the cut-scenes and silly dream sequences. In many of them you had to click the correct button at a certain time to get through the combats. Reminded me of Dirk the Daring in the 1983 Dragons Lair. I wanted desperately to skip through these wastes of time, but no keys worked to skip them. I either went to the bathroom when they were on or turned off my headset during the interactions with Buck, Citra, Vaas and the rest. Don't get me wrong, the sequences, voice acting, and animations were great, but there was no info in them I needed to play the game. It does not take long to zone out. Third, creature combat was inconsistent. I got attacked by a crocodile and it prompted me to mash the + key to fight him off. I died and re-did the sequence. Next croc attack it came up and told me to mash PgDn. Third time, it told me to mash the 1 key. WTH??? The character of Jason Brody is a whiny and thoroughly forgettable character. Guy wades through 500+ enemies, grenading, machine gunning and stabbing skulls and then stops everything to put up with a clingy girlfriend speech. (Yawn). The ability to get through the dreck and get back to shooting things would be appreciated. Borderlands 2 has that down nicely. Last, can Ubisoft think of an original premise than to steal the Assassins Creed rotation around a cell tower to reveal the map after climbing the tower? I think the sound effects are the same as AC as well. They are just missing the eagle screech. I do enjoy the combat sequences, game mechanics and setting. The game is well worth the money, BUT there are several annoying factors anyone buying this needs to know up front.
