What does the "Take Picture" option do while using the camera?

I know that the camera tags enemies, but that usually happens automatically when zooming in on them. So does the "Take Picture" button actually do something? I've pressed it and the shutter closes and opens as if taking a picture but that's it.

In a mission, you need make photos.
