wow, never thot i'd see a turd promoting a turd ... seriously ... won't be anything out within the next 6 years that will demand anything like that ... i'm a happy quadcore 9 series user, and i'll swear by it. you want to run this game completely maxd 1920x1080 at 8x aa, get a q9300 3g ram(at least 1333hz) and a 8800 gt.. we are talkin 400$ on ebay if you look hard enough and you'll dominate EVERYTHING but crysis vanilla until the next console garbage comes out, by then laptops will run crysis maxd and we'll all be looking back at farcry 2 and the i7 saying "wow, that really was waist of my time."
    myspecs?
    q9450, 2x gtx280h2oc,4gig ddr3 xms3, 790i ultrasli... crysis on a 52" samsung hd @ 1080p? 44+ fps n glorious...

Like everyone else has already said, the core i7 is really just overkill. There is no game on the market that requires this beast of a processor. Right now, all you need is a Core 2 duo (quad core if your thinking more powerful, though Core 2s still do a fine job so far) to do most of your gaming. I'd wait as long as you can until you buy another one because with every powerful hardware piece comes a big price tag. My Core 2 overcloaked to ( from 2.66 ghz) to about 3.73 or so and it does a great job at playing all my games. ( Far cry 2, Crysis, TF2, Fallout 3, Coh, to name a few)

You don't need the i7. You can put together a system capable of playing Crysis on max settings for about $800 not including monitor. Thats only using a Core 2 Duo. Intel needs to give the rest of us time to catch up before thinking we need it. They just want to stay ahead of AMD.

i7 is great if your a benchmark monkey or render artist but thats about it.
For gaming the Exxxx and Qxxxx series are still top class.

You don't need an i7 core to play these games or coming up games. Duo cores are doing very well right now, and the best for gaming, especially at the higher resolutions.

The higher the resolution, the less the CPU matters and the more your GPU takes on everything

    They Keep on using us.
Just so we buy & constantly upgrade our PCs. Just before the i7s were out, I upgraded my PC. Now if I want to upgrade to the i7 I need to change the MB that I paid 400$ for. Just to learn later that the motherboard can not harbor the full power of the graphic card.
Who needs all that computing power???????
If someone out there is using the full power of his hardware PLS tell me.

I have no idea what the Q9000 series processors can OC to but the i7s were designed with OCing in mind. I have the cheapest one which is a 920 and I OC to 4.0+ ghz and it's completely stable. Also at the store I shop at... an i7 920 will run you about $280. Where as at the same store a Q9550 is $380. So I spend $100 less to get a newer, better, and faster processor.

I'm also a Malaysian gamer but my pc sucks. You'll laugh at my specs. Its a old Compaq Presario 5000 but I changed the graphics card and added more RAM.
    Specs:
    Pentium 4(1.8GHz)
    1GB of Ram
    Nvidia 7600GT
40GB of HD space.(There is 3 partition which limits to 15GB/partition.)
OS: Windows XP service pack 2

Amazingly I'm able to run certain games on it like CoD 4 and Red Alert 3 with low graphics though RA 3 has low frame rates. CoD 4 runs smoothly with low graphics my monitor tends to "Blackout"(The screens turn black but the green light blinks). Why? Because I'm using a Samsung CRT monitor so if I'm lucky i can play the game with no problems. I'm planing to get a new PC but with the economy so bad now I don't I think I can plus I'm just a student with no income(sad).

P.S:I have another laptop that is running on Pentium 3 and Windows Mellenium.=)

i7 mobo's and builds are generally more expensive than socket 775 socket mobo's ... I'm also told a q9550 with OC highe than a low end i7
