Don't even ask how I managed to get myself in such a jam.

I am a Level 5 character who was just checking out Necropolis for the first time. I talk to a super mutant, and all of a sudden it's two weeks later and I've been taken to the Lieutenant of the super mutant army. I'm stuck in a holding cell with all my stuff taken away. I was able to lockpick my way out, but now I'm stuck. I can't beat these guys in combat, so I can't sneak past the mutant north of me on Level 3. Level 4 held some interesting information in the Vat Control Room (though I didn't set the self destruct sequence because I didn't want the game to end yet. I want to come back later). Running through red force field and taking the damage just takes me back to the Lieutenant....and a broken elevator. So I can't go north of the holding cells on Level 3 because I get my ass kicked instantly, and Level 4 is a dead end with a broken elevator , a few inactive Robobrains, and a very deadly Lieutenant. I am at a complete loss.

Where am I supposed to go? All the guides just assumed I walked in with identity concealing robes and a trio of Brotherhood of Steel paladins. How do I get out of here and how do I get my stuff back? Preferably without reloading a saved game and not being captured in Necropolis.

Your best bet is to reload from before you were captured and not ask to be taken captive. Seriously. This is your *best* option.

Of course, if you want to be hardcore, your only real way to get out is to fight/sneak your way out. You can possibly lockpick the door, shoot the guard with the 10mm I believe is in the room. Just hope for crits and use your AP wisely by ducking behind the corner at the end of every turn. You can set the self destruct and just start running like crazy and hoping you don't get hit. If you get out, that is not the end of the game, there is still one more place to blow up.

    But seriously, reload your game.

    - Restore from a previous save.
    - Save game editor. There are a couple I've used. They can only change your stats as far as I know. That might be enough to talk your way past the Lieutenant.
    - Use the combat cheat to get by enemies. Go into combat just before they alert, then stay in it enough to get past them without raising the alarm. I think that works in Fallout 1.

    Other than that, good luck.

If I remember correctly there is a locker in the same room as the Lieutenant. It's hidden from sight. Just search around the wals for it. There should be some useful stuff in there.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. After reading the advice and seeing the situation I was in, I decided that reloading a previous saved game was the best possible course of action. Being a Level 5 character (one geared towards science and intelligence and charisma rather than combat) trapped with absolutely nothing at the bottom of this base filled with super mutants (each of whom I stood no chance against in combat), there was no way I could possibly get back to the surface. Reloading the previous save was the best advice and the best thing for me to do.

Too bad I tend not to follow the best advice. Instead, I pressed onward and walked my ass out of that base without anyone knowing I left my cell! Those dumbasses probably think I'm still down there!

It was a glorious display of stealth that would make Sam Fisher blush. While I was at it, I stole some files, sabotaged a Mr. Handy, used a radio to trick the front gate sentries (who automatically target me when I leave the base) into leaving their posts, and pickpocketed the f*** out of almost everybody on Level 4. My only regret is that I could not reclaim my stuff, but THEIR stuff that I stole should be worth twice as much as my stuff was. They can keep it.

The advice about the combat cheat (that you can enter combat and walk right by them without them reacting) was VERY helpful. I practically spammed that thing.

...You should have killed the ugly before he chose to take you on a several month march across the wastes making you FAIL THE WATERCHIP QUEST.

for godsakes even if you DID manage to fight your way out of there, you wouldn't have enough time left to get back get a waterchip, and get back to vault 13.

Unless you managed to get the chip before talking to the dumb green guy and just decided to go with him somewhere cuz you liked his smile.

SHOOT HIM. SHOOT HIM ALOT. Seriously.

But if you want to fight your way out of the mil base at level 5? its somewhat of an enjoyable fight if you don't mind you've already lost the game.

I recall sacrificing Ian to kill 3 supermutants with their own rocket launcher.

The explosion of Ian with a knife taking down 3 super mutants will be forever engrained in my memory.

Yeah you can sneak out of there, but you've already lost so why bother? next time don't be so .... trusting of monsters?

We'll see how screwed I am. I have 207 days to find the Water Chip. Hopefully, I should have time to get to a town (preferably the Hub), sell all the stuff I looted and buy back some equipment, then head over to Necropolis and get my hands on that Water Chip.

I've done the impossible in this game before and I'll do it again.

I wound up there my first playthrough as well, except I ended up telling the Lieutenant what he wanted to know after two rounds of 'interrogation', as it didn't look like I'd survive a third. Should try that once.

I just know the first time I did it, I got like 2 of those water running out messages in transit, so I figure the trip took like more than 50 days.

    Caravans are ****ing slow.
