    Practice well
Qualify bad (75% of the time due to drunk AI : IE : AI swerving from one side of the track to the other while driving slowly, just as I reach them. : : the rest of the time because the AI are always full seconds faster than they were in practice.)

Race : Gain many spots in the first few laps, and spend the remainder of the race fading backwards, having to 'block' if I want to finish well.

During the last race, I practiced 2nd place. Qual'd 14th and raced to 5th and then faded to 10th (would have been worse without 'blocking' ). All the while running lap times within about 3 tenths of my practice speeds (with the exception of a few laps where I botched corners because of frustration).

Now, I don't mind finishing 10th, but I don't want it to be because I had to block because the AI are just generally faster than me the second portion of the race. It really seems to get near impossible after pit stops (running 25% races, so 1 stop).

Then I noticed what my engineer was saying ...

'The car behind has the option tire, he has the advantage' ......

Now maybe I misunderstood, but don't I /have/ to switch tires in a 25% race? I mean if I'm mistaken and I don't then facepalm! But other wise, why are the AI allowed to cheat? I'm already having a hard enough time winning without them cheating lol.

Until then, I'm thinking of swapping my strategy for the next race, and starting on primes then switch to options and see if I can make that work.

Side note, Hamilton is Destroying Vettel in my first season, with an 80 points lead after 11 races.

If CM did the right thing and allowed custom setups in OSQ that wouldn't be a problem.

I had similar issues when I first played using HRT. I restarted with Williams and that was no longer the case. I still qualified lower than I should have but during the race I was much more competitive and didn't have to block except on a few tracks where I didn't have a good setup or due to weather. I was able to gain spots after pit stops on some tracks. Won the drivers championship and I also beat Hamilton in the rivalry challenge.

Once I got the McLaren ride it was domination. I qualified well, including a few poles, and dominated most races. I was on pace to break the single season wins record (Vettel's?) before I quit because it was too easy.

All of that was on pro difficulty. I've since restarted on Legend difficulty and decided to start with HRT again and see if I can eventually get a good ride and win a championship.

As for the other racers being on options, maybe they haven't made their pit stop yet or they started on primes. The problem with starting on primes with a weak car is that you won't be able to gain as many spots in the early laps. Also, by the time you pit and get option tires you'll be too far behind to catch anyone.

I think starting with options is your best bet unless you want to gamble because rain is expected.

Decided to post here rather than a new thread, what is considered a good time at Monza for practice? Right now I have a 1:24.537

Got 2nd last race at spa, 10th the race before that when I first switch over to Sauber. I want to get a ride in a Ferrari, and so far I'm liking the Sauber cars (also powered by Ferrari which I didn't know lol), so I'll probably stay here until I get offered a ride at Ferrari, esp if I get a win o.o

But I'm curious how where that time stands. Good?

Edit : Woo first pole cracked off a 1:23.982 to lock in the pole.

Went ahead and ran the race since I had time, and finally a victory! This is the longest I've ever owned a racing game without a win. Granted, I havn't exactly played the crap out of the game. But it was mostly annoying because I did a few co-op season races with my friend and there was 3 times where I should have won but was screwed by something preposterous. (For example, at one, the AI car left pit road and right before the first corner came all the way across the track and knocked me off into the grass, and I got a penalty.)

On my new career on legend difficulty I got a ride with Toro Rosso starting at Hungary (started with HRT). At Monza I only managed a 1:29.nnn in the race! Way off the pace and Monza is the easiest track to win on. I've dominated that track on pro difficulty.

So was this a glitch or is your car slower on Legend difficulty (instead of the AI being faster)? I did get 5th at Hungary (rained and a lot of cars wiped out, even got a safety car), and I finished 9th at Marina Del Ray(? the track after Monza). Just strange that I was so slow at Monza.

Maybe it was setup? Also the Sauber cars are quite a bit better than the Toro Rosso cars. Even at Singapore, which I don't like at all (and I've never raced on before, ever in any game), I was getting top 4 times in practice in about 10 laps. Not a chance I'd be doing that in a Toro Rosso.

I don't know. I had much better speeds with similar setups on Williams, and McLaren. Granted the Toro Rosso is a weaker car but the difference shouldn't be that much. Pity I don't recall what kind of speeds I did with HRT.

Maybe the gear ratios and ride height. I didn't bother to make many changes since it was raining during practice. I did have to make big changes to the gears at Singapore(? the track after Monza) so that might have been it.

Yeah, I ran low downforce (I think I ran 2F/2R in fact, may have been 3/3 though) and adjusted both gears and suspension (ride height, springs, camber and anti roll bars) for the race at Monza, so that's likely the difference in speed, along with the fact that Toro Rosso cars are not as good.

^The last safety car was cool because it came just as I was fixing to pit. I pit under caution and everyone stayed out. They all pit when the race resumed which is what helped me to the 5th place finish.

I should mention that I don't have a high speed internet connection so my game is not patched. Maybe they made the safety car less likely to appear with the patches....

What are the anti roll bars and all of that for? I figured out how to adjust everything else, but if I knew what this was and how it affects your car, it would be nice.

And by the way, to whoever said marina del ray, that is in Venice Beach or L.A., or whatever you want to call it there. Idk L.A. that much, just know I walked by it last summer lol. You're talking Yas Marina.

Anti-roll bars & suspension affect the stability of the car.

Generally you want to make the car as low and as stiff as possible in dry weather. However, if you're driving at a bumpy track or you attack the curbs frequently you may need to raise the car and make suspension & ARB softer. In wet weather you'll want to raise the car and make suspension and ARB softer as well.
