Speed at its best.

User Rating: 9 | F-Zero X N64
F-Zero was an amazingly good game for the SNES, it was even considered as a system seller. In 1998, Nintendo released a 3D racing game building on the old F-Zero formula. And I tell you, it keeps the sense of high speed! Actually, the entire game is about steering, reflexes and above all: speed! Gameplay: 9/10 Really, it's all about finding the best way to build on your speed, cut corners, and bump your opponents off the track. Press A to accelerate. That's all you need. After you're done with the first lap, you get boost power. Boost power gives you a little boost of speed, but watch out, since a boost takes up energy from your car. Also, when you bump into your opponents or into the sides of the track, you'll lose some energy as well. When you've lost all your energy, your car will explode. Luckily, there are places on the track where you have to drive over and you'll recover your energy. But this boost adds a whole strategy to the game. Shall I boost? Or shouldn't I because I'll lose energy and may be at risk of exploding. But if I boost, I can take the lead. This is basically the only strategy involved. For the rest, it's all about speed and reflexes. There are all the game modes that you'd expect from a racing game: Grand Prix, Time Trail and Multiplayer. All are equally fun. But, F-Zero X is hard. The first level of difficulty is do-able, but once you start with Queen and King Cups you'll have to be really, really good. This takes a lot of practise and on King Cups you have to know every turn and corner and what-so-ever to win. Graphics: 10/10 Really good. From a technical standpoint, even better. The turns and twists look great, and you'll play with gravity all the time. During the racing you won't notice the graphics very much, but once you start looking at them, they are awesome. Sound: 6/10 Mwah. Heavy metal soundtracks. It doesn't really fit the style of the game, but it's ok. Value: 8/10 You'll get some time out of this game. Also, you'll want to keep working on your Time Trail records, and finishing the game is done nowhere without a lot of practise. Tilt: 10/10 This game is really good. Any racing game fan should not hesitate to purchase this game! It's all about the speed.
