F-Zero GX is a great improvement over its predessesor. Only fans of the series can handle the painful difficulty.

User Rating: 9 | F-Zero GX GC
GOOD:
-FIxed many flaws from F-Zero X
- Has more replay value
-Smooth graphics
-Simple and fast gameplay
-Music that definately fits in with the game which gives it a purely futuristic feel to it.
BAD:
- Incredibly high difficulty on both story and Grand Prix
-Story mode is very predictable and is very short

F-Zero X for the N64 brought the F-Zero franchise from the SNES to the 3D world. It was good afterall. Very clean frames which go up to 60 per second, simple and fast gameplay. The only thing was the graphics that were sacrificed in order to have the game look smoothly during gameplay. F-Zero GX for the GC improves the N64 version into the best in the series. This includes: Story(Although the first one didnt have one), Gameplay, Music, Graphics and replay value.

F-Zero X didnt have a story to make the game's characters more interesting. F-Zero GX does in a way. The main story mode just focuses on Captain Falcon on his regular day and life dealing with his enemy Black Shadow. Although its nice to see that they incorperated a story to the game, it just feels like a waste of time since its very short and the story isnt interesting and the end will leave you confused. The story modes gives you a special objective to go to the next mission like get first or get out of a place in a certain amount of time. Although the story is short, what makes up for it is the difficulty. After the first mission, you will wonder if you accidentaly put the difficulty on HARD while its actually on NORMAL. The characters that you unlock have their own little profile that explains their background history. Too bad you dont get to play their story.

Gameplay is quite simple: Be the first one to get to the finish line. The game itself is incredibly fast so you have to watch out where you turn and if you dont be careful, you will end up dying on the track; which leaves you memorizing the track especially on higher difficulties since the computer get much more aggresive. The controls are easy to learn so its pretty fun when you first jump in. You will be surprised though how fast the game goes compared to the N64 version.

The music in F-Zero fits prefectly with the game. With technoish music that first in ewith the game and gives it a futuristic feel. The music in F-Zero X did not do that. In F-zero X it was mostly a metal feel which did not accomplish the enviremoent of the game. Even the characters in F-Zero GX have their own theme song which gives the feel how they are.

Graphics GREATLY improved in F-Zero GX. Its just awesome too look at while in high speeds. The sense of speed is also great and the graphics keep up with it. This game could be among the best looking games on the Gamecube. The tracks are both imaginative and colorful and creat a lot of hazards in which you will be desperately dodging each one. The tracks are quite long and look great throughout the whole race.

The replay value also is pretty big. You could play with up to 3 other people on the multiplayer mode. Sadly only 4 players are on the track and not the other 26 CPU players to give it more of a big race. There is a store which you can get special bonuses like new characters, machine parts where you can create your own machine and more. Creating machines can be a great idea for your imagination. You can also crate your own emblem to put on your machine. There are the other classic modes : Grand Prix Time Trials. You can save replays from races and watch them in the replay mode. In order to get more tickets( the games currency) to buy things at the store, you have to win Grand Prix' and/or story missions.

While the only major flaw of the game is the difficulty, the game is a great improvement over the N64 game and is recommended for fans of the series and/or for people that love a challenge and want a fast and furious game.
