Some quirky controls don't stop this from being an entertaining and charming experience.

Well, we all know that the new PSP camera is out, and being put to use in games such as Invizimals. Well, here is yet another one. Even though it's big brother has much more of an interactive experience, this port is still as charming as ever. You start out with a cartoon scientist guy telling you all about the infamous "EyePet." This is the same as the live-action guy in the PS3 version, for those of you who are too stupid to not know. Anyways, you start off with a brief intro and then you will be asked to flip your camera lense towards you to take a profile picture. You will then be asked to flip the lense back to the "magic card" that came in the case. First off, this thing is super sensitive. If it's too bright, won't work. Too dark, won't work. Too loud, won't work. Too close, won't work. Too far away, won't work. It has to be perfectly placed, although its easy to adjust once you play a few times. When you do get it to work, a card board box will land on the card, revealing an egg. You will than be asked to use your health scanner to check on the little eye pet inside. It will say it is too cold, and you will be prompted to use a heater by pressing the X button. The egg will soon turn red and it will say it got too hot. Simply blow on the camera mic to cool it down. You will then have to rock the egg back and forth by moving the PSP corresponding with the guide. The egg will than hatch, allowing for a moment to take a picture of your new little pet hatching. You will than name the Eye Pet and can interact with him using your finger to pet and play. Unfortunately, this cool feature isn't nearly as sensitive as your magic card. The scientist will show you how to get to your pet house, and how to feed him, shower him, style him, play mini-games with him, etc. A cool thing I found was the drawing game, which was when you had to draw something on a piece of paper and then show it to the camera. Your EyePet will then attempt to copy it, allowing it to come to life to be used for minigames. Its stuff like this that make the game feel really realistic. Also, when you dress him up, you can change his hair length, color, design, and you will also be able to choose from over 100 different clothes to dress him up. It really allows for you to be creative and indivisual. It is true that the minigames get quite stale after awhile, however this game is aimed at a much younger audience. If you want to find an entertaining virtual pet game for your kid on the go, this is the perfect option.
