Risen 2: Dark Waters is an open-world role-playing game set in the pirate-infested seas of a fictional world. In it you play as a burned-out drunk with an eye patch who uses a combination of witty wordsmithery and swordfighting against a variety of enemies both historically rooted and purely supernatural. But for as much as this game dabbles in the fantastical, it focuses on one very serious issue: sometimes you just don't want to wear a shirt.

Well, at least...
In between running to appointments and bumping elbows with roughly 250,000 attendees per day here at Gamescom 2011, we somehow managed to squeeze in some hands-on time with the latest additions to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. We're talking about Nemesis, Jill Valentine's supernatural stalker from Resident Evil 3, and Doctor Strange, master of the mystic arts from the Marvel universe.

With all due respect to Bill Murray, CCP Games wants to move away from the "Groundhog Day scenario" of online shooters; that feeling that you're just replaying the same maps over and over without any sense of overall progress outside of a few unlockable weapon attachments. Halo: Anniversary is an Xbox 360 reworking of a 10-year-old Xbox game, so visual improvement is a given. But in it, you can switch between the old and new graphics on the fly, and when you see the "classic" view of the swamp-set campaign level 343 Guilty Spark flip into the new high-definition version, the contrast is astounding: rich textures pop in, shafts of light shoot in through the tree canopy, and the draw distance explodes outward....

Grasshopper Manufacture has been pretty busy of late. As well as putting out Shadows of the Damned, the developer has recently announced Lollipop Chainsaw and Black Knight Sword, the latter of which is a collaboration with publisher Digital Reality. The second title with the Hungarian company is Sine Mora--a side-scrolling shooter that will be making its way to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for download early next year.
