The best i've played, but not for everyone.

Lets get this right out here immediately: I LOVE EVE online. Ok, now that we have that out of the way, I'll progress.

Eve online is unlike any other mmorpg i have played. first off, its huge. looking at the player list on its single server, i very rarely see fewer then 10,000 players. No thats not a typo, 10000. In fact, their record is 23,321 concurrent players. And yet the universe is so massive that the game is hardly ever crowded, except for the deadspace areas in the newbie zone. but otherwise you usually see 2 or three players at most, even in central systems. So onto graphics. The graphics in EVE online are stunning. i mean jawdroppingly beautiful. It employs both advanced technology and, something that is fairly rare in a game, art. Practically Every system has a differnent feel due to 3d backgrounds around them. and these aren't your ordinary black space scenes. these are all nebulas and gas and dust clouds. sure, it might not be accurate, but it is stunning, so i'm not going to dispute it. The ship models are also gorgeous. But the best thing about EVE online is its revolutionary gameplay. First off, practically the whole game is player based. I haven't played many mmorpgs, but in all of them, players seemed to more coexist and go their separate ways, but in EVE online, the whole course of the cluster is shaped by players. And most of those players are interesting and intelligent. this game is not going to attract 10 year olds intent on killing noobs. sure, there are pirates, but there are also pirate hunters, who's entire job is hunting down and destroying pirates. This is because to really get into eve, you have to commit. sure, you can fly around and blast pirates on your own, but after a while, that gets really boring. to really make the game interesting, you have to join a player corp, what would be called a guild in another game. except that in this game, there are thousands of them. they range from mining guilds and manufacturing corps to pvp and pirate hunting corps. there are corp wars, alliances, and (of course) alliance wars. Now the downsides. like i said, eve online is a game you have to commit to. it also has a fairly steep learning curve. there are so many features and paths that you can take, learning even one of them is practically a full-time occupation.

So in the end, i would say that if you are a mature, patient player who likes a strong community and lots of interaction with other human players, go for it, you'll probably love it. However, if you want a quick and dirty game where you can kill ten thousand orcs without breaking a sweat, i would suggest that you go somewhere else.
