Can you really go wrong here?

User Rating: 8.8 | ESPN NHL 2K5 PS2
Bottom line, the gameplay (in my opinion) is that much better than the EA's NHL hockey series. I definitely don't fancy the ESPN endorsement though, to be honest. In fact, I rush through picking my teams and setting up just to avoid hearing that stupid theme music. I can't stand hearing it, it's so repetitive. They should consider adding some decent arena music in the setup instead. The commentating has always been bang on, though never very clear. The play-by-play guy always seems so low quality in sound... graphics are ok... up close shots are cool, replays are good; but you can only do so much tweaking in this dept given the speed of the play, so you can't really expect much here. Overall, 2K5 is the grand package. Primarily because it's at $19! I think we all know who has the braing here - Sega! it's common knowlege, that sports games are just not popular to buy given it's limited time usage, because next season will eventually out and makes the previous year that much more unappealing. These guys (Sega) definitely have the edge now because they've aimed to please their customers. It brings respect and loyality of return buyers. Why not price point it at a price where the customer will say to themselves, "it's just not worth it for to blow money renting it, when to buy it doesn't even hurt my wallet".... nice one, Sega! EA's NHL 2005 better be that much better because whose going to want to pay $59 for a game that will lose it's appeal in less than a year, when you have this healthy very competitive in quality, alternative.... you just can't go wrong?
