Although it's never really an option given while your team is in season mode to choose an alternate costume, I've found that it's possible to do so. For example, if I were to choose the Lakers, during the controller choosing screen (where you can set which controllers to play on either the away or home side), set your cursor on the Lakers (assuming that you're using them). Hit R2 twice to get their retro jerseys (it works in both home and away games). Hit L2 twice to get their home white jerseys. This should work for all teams, assuming that you've unlocked the team's retro jerseys.

Before turning on the PS2, have two controllers conected in port 1 and 2. Select the Quick Game mode with controler 1 and place both controllers to the home team on the right (supposed to be the Spurs). Let the game load and quit the game. Then load your 24/7 game. Go to Training Camp and if you get to control your opponent with the controller on port 2. You can also control you opponent in 2 on 2 mode. Finally, you can control your oppenent on the battlegrounds.

Create ten players. Assign all ten players to a Created Team. This duplicates the ten created players. Now delete the ten created players. You have ten more Create Player slots, and can just assign the players on the Created Team to whichever team you want them on. You have used a bug to add your created players to the permanent roster database of the game.
