For me, it was the end of the Total War saga

My first Total war game was Rome, i had my eyes on it for ages and when i bought it, it didn't disappoint, it was brilliant. Then came Medieval 2, it took a little while to get in to it, but after a while, it was perfect. Finally out came Empire, at first, i didn't like the look of it, but i thought i'd give it a go. Sadly this game, i feel is the end of the Total War saga. I enjoyed Age of Empires 1 and 2 not because of the city building, but because you had armies that mainly involved close to quarter combat, Rome and Medieval 2 had close to quarter combat. ME2 did have guns, but it wasn't a major thing and for me, it didn't spoil it. Empire and Age of Empires 3 had armies with guns and to be honest, it can be slightly boring. I'm not saying the game is that bad, but it's just not as enjoyable. Empire sadly no longer has regions unlike Rome and Medieval 2 which really sucked. You also no longer can invade cities or castles, just little forts or towns which again, really sucks. Naval combat is nice, but for me, it was difficult. Empire introduces a new idea to the game which can be good or bad depending on how you play it. This would be the tech tree which you allow your agents to research or steel from rival factions. It allows you and other factions to be different, so one might go for economy while you might go for military. Its great when you are really ahead of the other factions, but if your far behind, that's when it becomes a nightmare for both you, your army and your faction. You can no longer cross other factions boarders unlike before, you get the choice to ask for permission or declare war on them. The game does allow you however to play and somewhat relieve the British Empire days by raging war on everyone, occupying every continent and becoming the most powerful faction in history. For me, it was enjoyable, but like the other 2 games, once you reach a certain point in the game where there isn't much to do, it does become rather boring as you pretty much own everything anyway. The American campaign is enjoyable and offers a challenge as when you start, you are not only a small faction, but everyone else is already ahead with you, so you have to act fast be it economy, military and planning how to defend yourself due to the disadvantage. The game is ok, but i just feel that Empire is the end to the total war series, i just hope and pray Rome 2 will bring the series back to life again
