Empire Earth is in a true sense massive

When you want to compare Empire Earth with its successor Empire Earth 2 or even with one of the best RTS games, Age of Empires 2, it falls short. However Empire Earth is in its own league.

1. Gameplay - Like any other RTS games, the basics of the game include building an army and crushing any who oppose you. The game features an option for you to zoom in enough to see their faces. The game also features heroes and upgrades for the units. Each unit is allowed 10 points of upgrade (this necessarily doesn't mean 10 upgrades as there may be certain upgrades that cost more than just 1 upgrade point). The heroes also provide you with morale (increased defense and offense). Yo are also given a special unit known as the prophet (and not the priest - the priest is useful for converting people only). The prophet has special powers of mass destruction. They include powers such as earthquake, volcano, plague, malaria, etc. The best part of the game is however the ages that are available for upgrade. You are able to start from the stone age - where your villagers can't much of speak (if you click them they make a howling sound!!!) and fight with stone clubs and bones. Your final age is somewhere in the far future, where there are no pure humans left as the entire populace is made up of cyborgs.

2. Story - There is no specific story for the game. There are various campaigns ranging from the Trojans and Greeks during the Stone Age to the futuristic Russia. You can also play in a single player mode where you are allowed all the age advancements.

3. Graphics - Well, Sierra made a good effort but it fell flat. The graphics of the game are seriously pathetic if you try to zoom in. At the maximum zoom mode, you will feel like you are playing a modern version of Doom v1. The maximum zoomed out model is the one that is fit to be played in as any zooming in will likely make the game unbearable. But in spite of the graphics, Empire Earth's gameplay has made up for it.

4. Sound and Music - A decent and catchy music also makes up for the graphics blunder. The sound effects of the game are also pretty decent.

A good game and a must have for gaming enthusiasts, Empire Earth is sure to find it's place amongst your best games.
