It might be very similar to previous installments, but it's still the one in the series.

Funny how all games starting with Caesar look and feel the same. I use the term "funny" loosely, as it might actually get a little bit annoying. Still, any hard-playing fan will probably take comfort in the fact that no tutorials are needed when attempting to play Emperor.
The game looks fantastic. You can clearly see how the graphics has involved. The details are very precise, and the overall effect is very, very China-like.
A lot of improvements have been implemented, making the gameplay easier and more enjoyable. The game is fairly easy, although you will take more time to pass some missions. The game is very addicting: more often than not you'll realize how bad you want to play the game when you're not. That's how you know you're playing a good game.
There are very few kinks to be fixed. One of the biggest (yet a very small one) was the building/people size ratio, and it has always been a pain in my heart when playing the series. The people are way too big for the houses, it seems, and it takes away from the realism of the game.
Also, this game didn't have it's addon, which is a clear shame. I dreamed of an add-on, possibly located in Japan (which would make sense). Sadly, it has never happened.
I recommend this game, which can be, even today, a very well received one.
