I came close, I didn't get the drop from the Bionic Kraken, but otherwise I think I did okay.
Yours?

I never tried. I've beaten the game a few times, and did just fine without them. It seems like a huge waste of time to me.

He's referring to the 1/128 challenge, not just the few rare items that might actually prove useful (like trying to get a bomb from an Attack Slug, etc). Obviously it's a huge waste of time, but it's more an accomplishment for the sake of accomplishing it thing.

No I'm not an OCD gamer.. Just seems like a waste of time to me. It's not fun to get it so why do it?

I'm playing my actual cartridge and just did some grinding to get a Star Pendant. It took a while, but I got it. I happened to encounter a Chomoposaur and got a Magic Fry Pan on the first kill after I got the Star Pendant (though I had saved and reset in-between). Over multiple plays of the game I'd say I have seen just about all of the 1/128 items show up in my inventory, but never in a single play. There are some that are worth pushing yourself to get, like Star Pendants or Sword of Kings, but the rest are best obtained by playing the game normally and letting them fall in your lap. It spices up each play through of the game by making you think "cool, didn't know that enemy had that useful item."
My very first time playing EarthBound long ago, about a year or two after the game was released, I got the Gutsy Bat after I killed a Bionic Kraken and didn't have a clue it was rare. I told my friend (he had let me borrow the game actually) and he was so let down that I didn't take the time to save on that file and keep it. I've never been lucky enough to get it again and never pushed for it either.
So, yeah, you tend to remember those really lucky times when the cool items show up like they were meant to be.

Never got any of them. I guess I just didn't have the patience for that back in the mid-late nineties. I mean, I tried to an extent. I kind of wish I would have. I must've played through the game at least six times back then and not once was I lucky enough to find any of those really rare items.

On my last run through the game, I got all of the unique 1/128 drops (items that you can't get elsewhere) other than the Magic Fry Pan. I even got three Star Pendants (one for everyone other than Poo). I suppose I could have gotten another Star Pendant for Poo to equip in certain situations and the Magic Fry Pan as well, but since they're not really a blatant improvement over the Cloak of Kings and the Holy Fry Pan, respectively, I decided not to bother with getting them since getting all of those other drops had already taken long enough for me. Honestly, I think the worst part was grinding out three Star Pendants. That took most of a day to do, as I recall. The rest of the things generally only took maybe an hour or two each on average.
...I'm kind of afraid that the file will be wiped the next time I put the cartridge in, since it had been having some issues with retaining save files at one point. I'm thinking it may have just been dirt in the cartridge or something, though, since I had bought it from Microplay a few years back now and it took a lot of cleaning just to get it to work in the first place. It must have come fresh out of someone's garage or something.

All the items, no. But on a "perfect" run I made, I got 3 Star Pendants, the Sword of Kings, the Magic Fry Pan, the Goddess Ribbon, and the Gaia Beam. The however is that any braggart can make such a claim, so I backed it up by taking a picture of Ness holding all this stuff and posted it to an Earthbound fan group on Facebook:

*Mother 3 item drop spoilers I guess*
Never bothered. IT's too time consuming to get te good ones, and unless you save scum you'll be super over-leveled. I've never had that much luck either; I had to fight those Starmen for over an hour to get the sword.
I've had more luck in Mother 3, though. I got the Mystical Gloves from the first Monkalrus I fought, which really made my day.

Remember: you Byrne Cole with Embrose to create Steem so you can ride the Raels. Don't forget to get your Anjean's Gage in case you run low on Carben.

The only ones I've gotten are the Sword of Kings and Star Pendant.
