Ever since i heard some pot heads at subway talking about killing giant bugs and robots while destroying a city with hundreds of weapons ,while playing co-op split screen on xbox 360 for hours i knew i was an instant EDF fan. I now own all of them after taking the plunge on the first one,its a love or hate kind of old school game,its dated, it got medicocre graphics,no real plot or story.it can get really repetitive and brain rotting depending on the way you play.But what it does have is tons missions, 100's of weapons with cool effects and stratigic perks, smooth running chaos at a mass scale, with load of enemy's on the screen, along with 4 classes of warrrior that greatly changes the gameplay ,it packs an awesome local split screen co-op campaign thats getting hard to find in the online era.most likely you would like the EDF franchise if your a fan of japanese games from the early ps2 days and old school couch co-op with the main objective being kill everything.
Earth Defence Force :2025 is the best of both games to date. It has the feel,look,and content of the first but the warrior classes ,and enemy mechanics of the short but sweet EDF:insect armageddon .The graphics have slightly improved and the two new classes of warrior have been added along with different types of levels and enemy's.
Unfortunately the main problem still hasn't been addressed and that the overall depth of game.it needs a better story with at least a main villan and some kind of motivation,The RPG system can be greatly expanded compared to the ridiculous dated and simple system of pickups it uses now.The game could use a shop and some kind of currency so you could buy and sell weapons,the missions need more dynamic objectives instead of shooting red spots on bosses and killing all enemy's on the map , for the love of'f god the voice acting and script is just as bad as it gets.Its literaly back in the days before Metal gear solid on PS1 its even worst than the first Resident Evil only its now.its a shameful joke.
Overall its still the same formula with a little more depth, a few different ways to play,it can be greatly improved and doesnt hold a candle to the scope of modern console games,but yet its still fun,addictive, cool for company,the greatest use of a home 3D projector,a massive bang for the buck,and the only game of its kind. out of the series this one is the best attempt.
