Curious about offline co-op

Is it possible to play it almost like a old-school ROTK game? you know both players taking turns individually and being able to be on different sides of the same battle should they so choose?
I already put together that online that is not possible, but cannot find decisive word on offline play.

Unfortunately the only offline co-op two players can do is almost just a limited as Online co-op play. In offline co-op play, a second player can only play with the first player during battles, and not all battles either. For example, if player one starts of an empires mode as a free officer and goes to fight in little mission skirmish battles, they play alone. Also, unless player one has sworn siblings, spouse, or friends that allow them to have a choice of who to send into battle, player two cannot join in.
Pretty much what I'm saying is that player two can only take control of a second character that is a follower of player one in battle sequences.

well that seems like they may have underplayed their hand a bit. The idea of making a game with battles of dynasty warriors with tactics of ROTK + the current age of the internet would make for some brilliant multiplayer.
Really the only thing they would have to do is make the save on their servers so players couldn't possibly alter the data...

this is something i've been hoping to be added in dynasty warriors since dw 2. Multiplayer with a possibility of being in opposing forces. Of course rottk-style would be even better, but even in freemode would be cool.
honestly i believe this relatively small addition would make DWs a whole lot better. Add online in the mix and you'd have CoD-quality multiplayer.
