Despite having totally unoriginal gameplay, Dynasty Warriors 5 is still a fun game to play and of the better DW games.

Officially, this is the fifth the game in the Dynasty Warriors series. Counting all the Empires and Xtreme Legends titles, this is probably the eight. As you probably guessed, Dynasty Warriors 5 features the same square button mashing hack and slash chinese action from before. Not to say this is bad though, during campaigns events can happen very differently depending on who you play as and what you do. This makes for lots of replayability and the story events are pretty interesting. Sometimes you'll discover some completley different event by playing as a certain character that can result in an extra enemy general/boss characters appearing from nowhere, the landscape being opened or cut off as well as other things. You still run into large crowds of dense enemies and cut em to bits with sqaure/triangle combos and Mosou attacks. This game is great fun with friends and a superb way to let off steam and to just pick up and play. You feel good playing this game, and isn't that what games were intended to do?

The garphics are pretty decent, there are swarms of generic soldiers that look pretty boring, and the misty landscapes aren't great to look at, but the general themselves are pretty detailed and there are 4 costumes for each so there's a lot of variety. The cutscenes opened up by completing mosou mode don't all look spectacular and some suffer from graphical glitches, but all in all, Dynasty Warriors 5 is pretty good to look at.

The music in this game is really good. The synthesiser is put to good use with the oriental techno themes and depressing music when you are losing. A lot of these themes are recurring but are mostly pretty enjoyable. The voices are credited as being cheesy and camp, but I find them pretty cool. Some characters are waaaaay over the top, and that's really cool. There are a few recognize-able voices throw in but the voices are well above average all together.

With loads of weapons to unlock, mosou modes to complete, costumes to unlock and challenge records to be beaten, Dynasty Warriors 5 has pretty good value, combined with Xtreme Legends, you'll spend a lot of time trying to unlock everything. Overall, Dynasty Warriors is less boring than people are led to beleive and this is a fun game to play, despite being too easy or glitchy.
