On the surface this looks like a hack and slash game, but if you delve deeper you can find there is tactics and strategy involved. You play the part of a heroic comander, their are many to chose from. Each has different weapons and combo moves, and you upgrade them over the course of a campaign. Once in battle you can just hack and slash and rack up the bodycount or you can use your head and find powerups and alter the whole battle. Powerups are hidden in various containers. To alter the battle as a whole you have to track down and defeat enemy officers. This improves your side's morale and frees up troops to accompany you in hunting more enemy officers. Also if you want to stop the flow of enemy reinforcements you have to defeat gate captains. When you do these two things you can see the effect it has on troop flow in the on screen game map. If you wipe out pockets of enemy resistance your troops can combine and attack as a whole wiping out the final harder officers. I think this is a great game and I like how the flow of a battle can be changed by killing key officers, and mopping up stragglers and seperated officers. The maps are varied too, and the battles that take place on ships sometimes change as the ships drift. I have also seen catapaults and siege towers manned by archers. I think it also has heaps of replay value, you can also import the maps and scenarios from dynasty warriors 3 which I will buy when it drops to budget price.
