If you enjoyed Dark Alliance, you're going to absolutely love D&D Heroes. Other gaming sites/mags are giving this 8 or 9 out of 10 for good reason. Gamespot managers, fire this reviewer, seriously. Don't be fooled: This is an excellent game, superior in almost every way to Dark Alliance. The first thing you'll notice is that the "feel" of the combat is better -- when three hobgoblins come into the area, one casting spells, the other two blocking your attacks with shields (you have to block and time your counter attack when they lower their guard) -- all while watching out for the caster -- well, clearly there is a lot more "technique" and strategy to the combat than you'll ever see in Dark Alliance or Diablo II. Diablo II combat: Click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click. Dark Alliance combat: Bloooooooooooock, click, click, click, click, blooooooooooock, click, click, click, click, click. D&D Heroes combat: Block, click, click, block, run, click, run, block, click, click, block, run, run, click, block, click, click, run, block, click, click. There are also more items, more monsters, and more skills and abilities than DA! Another example of the amateur nature of this Gamespot review: The graphics are definitely on par with DA -- the only difference is, in D&DH, you can actually ZOOM IN. Reviewer: do you know what happens when you zoom in on 3D polygonal objects and textures? That's right: they don't look as good! D&DH definitely looks as good as DA at normal zoom levels; it doesn't take a Ph.D. to understand this difference.
