How well are hackers handled in this game

Just bought the PC version, coming from xbox (because devs gave up completely on it... 200 hours of my life wasted) but it was inevitable, as with the lack of care by the devs, hackers completely took over that entire game, making it unplayable on public if you wanted to play normally. Is the ranked PC different? I assume with the increased support of Trendy, hacking would be kept to a minimum. Looking at the leaderboards for some of the maps though I still question how legitimate they actually are though.
Any thoughts?

As long as you play ranked there's plenty of legit people.
I saw some hackers during my career but they're usually so obviously cheating that you can just gtfo or kick them if you're the host =)

Thank you moassman. Does this apply to leaderboard scores too? You think all those are fairly legit?
Btw: your name looks very familiar, are you on other board pretty often?

Most likely most of the leaderboard scores have been illegally got, I've never really paid any attention towards them except on the very first moments of the release of a map =)
And my name may sound familiar since about X time ago you wished to add me as a friend in Steam for playing DD together, but since you were low on cash or something similar you couldn't get the PC version :3 Eventually, after I quit DD and deleted errything, I also removed all the "friends" (read:most of my Steam list) from DD, because it started to become a hassle to sort who was who and played what now
Feel free to add me again @ Steam if you actually play DD, I guess I'll take it back up at least partially as well ^^,

I know a while ago, there was an outbreak of hacked items, not sure if there still is.
