Didn't like Forever, but like Duke Nukem? Get on this!

User Rating: 8 | Duke Nukem Forever: The Doctor Who Cloned Me PS3
Duke Nukem: Forever was a game I knew wouldn't meet today's criteria for FPS games. A very out dated game, with ideas coming from everywhere for the gameplay, but falling flat on its face.
It's key influence was clearly Halo, using Vehicles and shooting as the main cornerstone of the gameplay; mixed with awful shrinking sections, and some fairly entertaining comedy levels where you explore a level collecting random items.

Overall it was a fairly average game. So, when it comes to the DLC for this game at £6.50, I was a little wary. But I decided to take the chance on it and give it a go. Well I can say that this DLC is actually very fun -much better than the actual game.

It has a full story, that's about Duke waking up to find Doctor Proton cloning Duke. Not much of a story, but the gameplay is very fun this time round. The dialogue is actually really funny, and the pacing is really fluid. All-in-all, this is a massive suprise.

"How is the game good if the gameplay felt average to begin with?", you ask, well, the shooting is just the same as Forever, sure, but it removes the stuff that made Forever so painful to play.
There is only one small section where you shrink, and it lasts, literally, about 5 minutes. No awkward platforming sections, and a couple of driving sections, that are actually quite fun to play. There is alot of landscape change, going from factory's to building blocks, to desert landscapes and even the Moon! It all keeps you going.

Graphics: Same as last time, average, but you knew that anyway. 6

Sound: Dialogue on the main game was funny, but this DLC knocks it up to 10. Very funny stuff. 10

Gameplay: Amazing what this has done for the game, just by removing the mudane sections and working with what it knows how to do well. It's actually fun to play! 8

Sh!tebox: Shame this wasn't the real game to begin with.

Overall: A good length for a DLC, good gameplay, funny script, this puts the main game to shame. If you like Duke, but didn't like Forever, this is well worth giving a go. Very suprised.
