Man, who hasn't heard about Duke Nukem? He's the most charismatic character ever from the world of Video Games & he plays in the most explosive game ever created, or one of the most...explosive games ever created.A lethal combination! This game is full of Bang-Boom-Blast-Kaboom, filled with Dukes hilarious quotes. When he says:"-Hail to the King Baby!", i think he's tryin' to suggest that he's the King of Quotes not the King of FPSs...well, maybe he was in 1996 but nowadays there are guys like Master Chief & Gordon Freeman that have surpassed him when it comes to shooters.Nowadays he's just a poor Janitor in the World of First Person Shooters, but back in the day...hmm, not even back in 1996.That year belongs to Quake when it comes to shooting. It had full 3D rendered graphics, polygons whatever, semi-mouse support & introduced the Multiplayer in Shooters.Duke Nukem was...was nothing!Just a funny guy full of quotes & explosions, that's it!Nothing revolutionary, moreover, it's just a Rip-Off after Doom.Duke Nukem represents a more evolved version of Doom & the only succesful entry in the series. The previous 2 titles were obsolete even when they were released.DN3D was inferior to Quake in all aspects:graphics, gameplay, music, atmosphere you name it!
There are 3 Chapters, each having 7-8-9 levels. You begin in Los Angeles & you find out, or Duke Nukem finds out, that Earth has been invaded by Alien Pigs who capture all the women:"Nobody steals our chicks... and lives!"Doom created controversy with it's Violence & was accused of Satanism, on the other hand, Duke Nukem 3D was accused of creating a bad image to Women...no more details.Chapter 2 takes place on a Space Station & at the 3rd Chapter you're back on Earth. At the end of the game, Duke fights a Giant Alien on an American Football Stadium. The monster looks like the Cyberdemon from Doom, another rip-off.Throughout the game, you have to pick up various coloured Key Cards to open doors(again, a rip-off from Doom).
The game has a rich arsenal of weapons, some of them innovative like the shrinker that helps you minimize your enemies & then squish them.Or the expander that maximize & make them explode. My favourite weapon is the RPG that is used only for distant attacks & deals great damage. The most frightening enemy is the Octabrain-only when you pronounce its name you know that..."...you're all out of gum!".The aliens that make me laugh are the LAPD Wild Pigs, they are hilarious.Besides the weapons, Dukes inventory also includes a Jetpack, Scuba-Gear, Holograms(a la Total Recall) & other stuff.
The Graphics are outdated & there are height differences but you cannot look up or down, it has a limited perspective therefore it has a frustratings gameplay. The soundtrack is good, especially the main theme which is iconic & the 2nd music track. It has a great replay value.
Honestly, it's the most destructive game i've ever played. There's nothing revolutionary about it but it's hella fun, pure entertainment, Hollywood (TM) lol.
