MySims PC-bound in October

EA's open-ended, kid-friendly creation sim heads to home computers with a new online mode this fall.

Electronic Arts has set a goal of $6 billion in annual sales by 2011, but at last count, it still has more than $2 billion to go. One way the publisher said it plans to close that gap is through its mass-market MySims franchise.

At its analysts and investors conference in February, EA informally announced MySims Kingdom and a PC port for the popular Wii and Nintendo DS game released in 2007. Having officially begun construction on Kingdom in May, the publisher today confirmed MySims will arrive for the PC this October.

On the PC, MySims builds on Will Wright's original creation by immersing pint-sized gamers in their own highly customizable towns. In the open-ended environment, players can flesh out first their characters' appearance and then build a variety of houses, stores, and other businesses. More than just a port of last year's game, the PC edition adds in multiplayer support, where players will be able to chat with and join in on schoolyard games, such as hide-and-seek and tag.

This sounds like a complete waste off time. There again, any game with the word "Sims" plastered across it will sell. I'll wait for a proper Sims game. The third installment perhaps?

The game is very cute, and that's what they were going for. However, it doesn't seem like they captured the building and design aspects that make The Sims games so fun for many of us. I guess they left that out so it would work on consoles and to focus on "innovation" ... but really it fails at being the proper Sims title it could be.

"immersing pint-sized gamers" - I think that means it's for kids... or 'little people'?

"where players will be able to chat with and join in on schoolyard games, such as hide-and-seek and tag" - Now kids too can avoid everyday social activites. I didn't think kids were supposed to chat online.

i liked the art style, and it sort of reminded me of Viva pinata (a bit like) but it was very shallow and kinda dissapointing.

I'm not sure why this would even be considered a good idea.

In FEAR of being modded for every statement on gamespot I say: I agree 100% with this article regardless of it's truth of validity.

While I have a DS and a Wii I have never gotten to play either version. Perhaps if the PC version is released I'll consider playing that version, if its cheap enough. However, I'm looking forward to Spore first.
